But then again with that new report on PG-13 movies being more violent than R-rated films these days (in terms of the amount of gun violence), I think these MPAA ratings have boundaries that are starting to become blurred.
It's more graphic than what has previously received the rating. It's not like Shame or Requiem, or whatever other film the MPAA shamelessly slapped the rating on. It's just not something those old voters will sit through. The fact that they don't even finish watching the films they actually nominate makes me believe that they'd turn this one off two minutes into the first sex scene.

I don't think it's something that deserves the rating, but that has more to do with the fact that I think the MPAA is just warped.

EDIT: I'm not saying it shouldn't be nominated. I'd love for it to happen. But a low grossing NC-17 lesbian french flick that's three hours long just isn't what they embrace.

I think it's just the herd mentality going on. The collective hating on that film makes it appear "worse" than it really is. Kind of like the hate partying against Prometheus.

Yes! Of course when I'm not on Blu-Ray.com; the Criterion titles get announced. All awesome titles right there! Happy Breathless is still around as well as Fantastic Mr. Fox, that's my favorite Anderson film.

I guess I was too busy picking up City Lights! And the 15 % off coupon worked! I have never seen it but I love Chaplin so it's probably a safe blind-buy.

The details state that all features will be on both formats.

To be fair, I was joking about Criterion releasing it. That said, I actually did like it.

I might not dig the amount of lesbian sex either...or at least I might be a bit uncomfortable, much like those folks at the Academy. I'm always openminded and give every film an equal chance though. I think the world will see a sea change soon enough once the older generation dies off and the more tolerant younger generation accepts more films like these. Right now these sorts of films are seen as "brave" and "courageous" but one day most films will show lesbian sex scenes since it will no longer be taboo. But for now, just about any film that is an arthouse LGBT film is highly accoladed.

Impressive line-up! Will probably get everything except Breathless (already own the first release).

King of the Hill has even a second feature film on board Underneath.

Mm, we're trailing off into a different subject. All I'm saying is that Criterion's release probably doesn't have much to do with the Academy, as the Academy won't be giving this film love to begin with. Film has a lot more going for it than the sexuality it depicts - not that the Academy would notice its universal view.

Does it have something to do with its consistent controversy, Palm d'Or, and immense praise? Yeah, those are much more likely.

Still sucks that I'll have to wait for the definitive release.

True.

Okay, now suddenly I feel like Vincent Gallo with my remarks on LGBT films. Yikes.

I have been disappointed with Criterion almost every month this year but todays announcements are pretty nice.

Gonna have to pick up Mr. Fox.

Tess and King of the Hill look really nice as welll

The fact that there are no features for Blue is the warmest color is obscene but what can ya do..

Very nice announcements overall

I've been offline for the past couple of hours, so...

Ohhhhh yeah!

These titles will definitely be mine...

I'll be 42 in February, but I screamed like a schoolgirl when I saw Foreign Correspondent and Jules and Jim.

This title might possibly maybe be mine...

Surprised Fantastic Mr. Fox was announced so fast, and especially that The Life Aquatic was not announced with it. Really look forward to seeing the actors recording their lines because the glimpses on the existing Blu-Ray were not enough.

Seems kind of dumb that they don't just let IFC do the barebones Warmest Color themselves and then do the Special Edition later on. I get why they would want to have a release available, because it could take awhile to get the SE out, but it's still kinda disappointing to see Criterion doing that kind of thing. Also not a huge fan of the Breathless re-release as a combo considering it's already on Blu-Ray.

Intrigued by the inclusion of The Underneath on King of the Hill.

I assume Foreign Correspondent is entirely owned by a company or person other than Warner Bros.?

I don't think it needs a Criterion, but Ocean's Twelve is the best of the series. A wonderful, sly movie that people have a bizarre hatred for. Thirteen is the empty one -- fun, but just going through the motions. http://blogs.indiewire.com/criticwir...a-great-sequel

breathless re release is a waste, I really hope this doesnt become a trend.
Blue is the Warmest Color is a worthwhile movie, but I'm not super enthused about the lack of supplements. It will be very cheap during sales though, so I guess thats okay.

So excited for the Hitchcock. Indifferent about everything else.

Probably get about 4 of those announced titles.

Me, too. I've seen "Bottle Rocket", "Rushmore", and "The Royal Tenenbaums" and did not like any of them. HATED the trailers for "Life Aquatic" (which I probably saw 10 times before other films at the theater) and "The Darjeeling Limited" so did not see them. I have "Fantastic Mr. Fox" but have not viewed it yet. I've pretty much concluded Wes Anderson is just not a writer/director that appeals to me. (Peter Greenaway is another.) I'm sure we all have directors that are just not for us.

So yeah, it disappoints me because Wes Anderson takes another slot that could have gone to someone else (a Kore-eda, or first-timers for Almodovar, Solondz, Tykwer. BTW, why is Sidney Lumet not represented in the Criterion collection? Is it because of which studios have the rights? I’m not knowledgeable on who won’t license to Criterion.)

Its not a waste, they're just doing it so they don't have to keep printing both dvd and blu ray packages and save the money.

Anyways, so down for Fantastic Mr. Fox, Foreign Correspondant, Tess and upgrading Jules And Jim.
Great line up!
