BTW, whoever posted that Walkabout is now $25 on AMZ, thanks. I was thinking of upgrading my dvd, and now that is a more reasonable price than the $30+ AMZ has been charging.

Since you do not seem happy with this film being released what films would you like to see released? If they were never released on DVD then the chances of them coming to Blu are slim to none.
No CG, not again. Wes says you must refrain...

Off the top of my head:

Godard's Histoire(s) du cinéma (all of it)
Dennis Hopper's Out of the Blue
Cassavetes' Love Streams
Oshima's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (Bowie!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Warhol's Chelsea Girls

Alot more where that came from. Mostly Silents.

Well, first off, slow your roll, there. Yeah, SS is obviously "up there", but someone else was seemingly asserting that critical opinion regards it as "the greatest ever". And yes, on that note, referring to any film (with a straight face at least) as best/worst ever is ludicrous at worst and cheesy at best. As far as the "pretentious" remark, I'm referring to multiple comments I've seen directed CG's way over time in this thread, not any one individual. Oh, and please do backtrack and show where I said I was "unsatisified" with Criterion's releasing SS on blu. Please.

Yeah I was just saying to say a movie is the "best ever" is funny since no one has seen every single film made so you can't give that opinion. That is also why IMDB's "lists" is wrong on all accounts.

Oh and I listed some films not on dvd here in the U.S., so any opinions for the ones interested. Should Darjeeling get a Criterion re-release before these? Let's see that answer, and please no "Well they need the profit stuff". Criterion has $$$$$.

Ok I hear you but they did cover Godard with like 10 titles on SD and what did Cassavets have? Like 6? Thats not bad at all and they have already released Pierrot le fou on Blu. I could be just as upset as I want my Douglas Sirk on Blu and really pissed me off that Magnificent Obsession was just released what about a year ago and only on SD.

What I said was it is "considered" by many to be "one of" the greatest films of all time. For me personally it is the greatest film that I have ever seen mind you. And I have seen quite a few in my fifty years of life.

It's just a colloquial expression for discussing widely critically acclaimed films. As for IMDB's lists - well people like making rankings and lists, and no one person is capable of seeing every film ever made, so basically you're complaining about an aspect of human existence. I think most approach all lists and subjective rankings with a grain of salt, knowing that the lists are a) limited in nature just due to the upper limit of number of movies any one person can have seen, and b) people's opinions vary widely. I guess there are a few crazies who seriously think that their rankings are absolute, but it hardly seems necessary to assume that about every Tom, Dick, and Harry who makes a list or a bold opinion.

Criterion's blu-ray prices at Amazon.com have been higher than they used to be only a two months or so ago. It used to be that the one-disc titles were priced in the mid twenties, up to about $27. But now they seem to mostly be around $30 to about $36 for one disc. And it's stayed that way for a while. (A few are lower but, compared to what the pricing used to be, not many titles are lower.) What happened and will the usual Amazon price for Criterion Blu-ray discs drop back down in the near future, or is this just the way it's going to remain?

There are loads of Criterion blus that I want to buy but I don't want to buy them only to notice a price drop afterward.

I get the use of the term, people constantly say 'greatest ever' just to mean a personal favorite or even the best film they believe they have seen. Oh, and I guess that was you who had made the remark about the critical consensus of SS. Sorry, forgot who had said it. Anyway I do understand it, I just wish more people would keep the hyperbole in check, and just say "It's honestly the greatest I've seen" or stuff like that instead. Whenever I hear "worst ever!" I just default to an image of some teenager who didn't dig the not-horrible-but-fairly-mediocre horror flick or slow-moving period drama he just walked out of. You know what I mean? Maybe? Haha

Say no more. It's just that we have 2 different personalities and like 2 different things. You like Seven Samurai (Critically acclaimed, highly regarded) and I like the movies that sticks the finger to society, critics, the way of doing things. The experimental type, so to say.

One question, have you seen Paul Morrissey's films? That is one way we can tell a difference in film taste.
