I don't agree with that because if it was I'd be all over it. When I think of self-consciously quirky I think of 500 Days of Summer which makes me sick.

Definitely! Especially considering that it wasn't shot on film

Same here. I pre-ordered Zatoichi along with City Lights and Tokyo Story. I still have my Amazon pre-order for Zatoichi at $156, just in case B&N decides to cancel or something.

By "later" do you mean "tomorrow" since that's when Tokyo Story comes out?

You're right, I just couldn't think of the right word...it felt like Baumbach was laying on the style and the odd character traits a bit too thickly, to the point where I never really believed any of the characters could ever be real. It could be that I'm way too old and too far removed from that generation to have any idea

This list is by no means complete. These are just the ones that are either in my queue to watch, or I've seen listed in passing.
Thanks for posting this, Jayembee! Off the top of my head, The Forgiveness of Blood and The Lady Vanishes are also there. I am fairly certain, however, that the transfer for TLV is an older, inferior one.

Haha. Phantom Carriage is only ten cents cheaper than it would be at B&N after discount. But hey, at least it saves a trip to the store.

There are plenty of transplants to New York trying much too hard to make themselves into characters even more self-consciously odd than the ones in Frances Ha. Those depicted in the film I found pretty low on the annoyance scale, all things considered.

Personally, I found Frances Ha to be a middle of the road film. I liked it enough on a first viewing, but it didn't fill me with a strong desire to revisit it or purchase it for myself. That's pretty much my standard reaction to Noah Baumbach's films.

Too bad I missed all the fuss about Francis Ha, really disliked the film but Pro-B does a marvelous review as always.

Anyways, I might watch Three Colors: White tonight. Guys, how does it compare to Blue which I viewed last week?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Silent.
