Looks like they got the hint about pricing stickers this week:

Although check out the supply of City Lights that came out last week still covered:

A 4K scan has been done on Bicycle Thieves, but work has not begun restoring it yet.

I'm loving how Criterion President Peter Becker says regarding blu-ray upgrades that they can't just "pop them out". He talked about how difficult it is and to negotiate to get the films upgraded. He did mention there is a brand new 4k scan of Bicycle Thieves though in NYC, waiting for the blu-ray upgrade, that the company will get to very soon. Pretty exciting stuff!

Now that Criterion has officially referred to Warner Bros as a "partner", can we stop all of the "Nope, isn't gonna happen, Warner owns that film" posts?

Michael Bay went to Criterion and asked them to release Armageddon.

This is way interesting.

Yeah, loving the "inside take" on Criterion. This is so great.

I just tweeted them!

I asked:

@wexarts Is Criterion ultimately hoping to have as many "big"/essential directors in their collection? What is your criteria for choosing?

The discussion on the difficulties of releasing Napoleon was especially interesting, I thought.

yeah, who knew there were so many versions, and so much unseen footage?!? It's crazy to think there is a 5 hour version and that the two premieres were different.

They'd love to do a new edition of Andrei Rublev!

And you can't help but identify with the difficulty of how, as a producer of home media, does one handle a situation where a film originally projected three full 35mm frames side-by-side. Seriously, how does one make that work on a television set? It's a tricky situation.
