I watched Femme Fatale last night and loved it! Soo underrated, I can't see why so many people don't like it. For me it's up there with Blow Out. Can't decide which one I like more. It's a shame that there's no Blu-ray availabale, not anywhere.

And Rebecca Romijn made my heart beat faster. Very seductive lady.

I'm making my way through all of De Palma's films lately, tonight I will see his newest one, Passion.

Casualties of War is another very good film of his, that hasn't seen a Blu-ray release yet.

I also have the first edition of 'Tokyo Story' on DVD so there is no real reason why I should be complaining, but just the notion of one of my highly anticipated title releases has a scratch on the disc is annoying enough to overlook. Oh well beggers can't be choosers. I just don't want to get disappointed a third time if I decide to exchange it for another copy. I don't know if it's just disc placement that caused those scratches, but who knows.
Had a minor scratch on my DVD, but I was able to almost buff it out with a cloth, so not going to take it back... plus not sure I'll watch the DVD copy.

I did not plan it this way, but it was a good idea to watch the 1943 adaptation of Jane Eyre the night after watching The Uninvited. I love me some gothic 1940s black-and-white cinema, and these are both beautifully-photographed films. It's too bad that the Twilight Time Blu-ray of Jane Eyre was taken from secondary sources instead of the original negative, but they did a fine job with what was available and it's a good-looking disc.

Watching Jane Eyre reminded me that, as much as I like to pile on my least favorite Criterion title, A Safe Place, I am glad that it is in my collection, simply because I like having another Orson Welles movie on the shelf. I own The Third Man on Criterion DVD, and, while it looks good on my setup, I'll probably break down and grab the StudioCanal disc since I get it for cheap next month when Barnes & Noble works their Christmas sales.

Tonight is Planes, Trains and Automobiles night. Woo hoo!

If I have time, I might put Paris, Texas into the player, because I have a hankering to revisit that movie. I've got a full day tomorrow with the half marathon and driving north to visit family after that, though, so I'll probably just sleep early. I can always watch it when I get home tomorrow night.

So what version of Lord of the Flies is suppose to be better? The original, or the 1990 remake? Watched the original the other night and was expecting more (the editing was beyond weird in it).

Any thoughts on Vampyr anyone? Worth the blind buy? The trailer and the packaging for the sale looks like a great deal.

Happy Turkey Day to all here from the nations capital! -JM

Usually, the problem with presenting a list of the best whatever is that once someone has gone through those, everything else seems lesser in comparison. But there are enough terrific Westerns that even when you've gone through 10 or even 20 of the best, there's still a lot more worth seeing.

Of course, I'll watch just about anything when it comes to Westerns. I would kill for a DVD set of the just-shy-of-50 Westerns that Tim Holt made for RKO, not to mention the dozen Tom Keanes and dozen-and-a-half George O'Briens.
