Maybe it's partly because I was down with a rough cold virus last night, but I did not quite fall head over heels in love with this particular Kazan film.
I was impressed, but this is definitely not one of the highlights of my 1950s Blu-ray collection. It's good enough that I want to go through multiple times in the future, and I enjoyed watching the commentary track immediately after the actual film, but it did not click with me quite like On the Waterfront, Wild River, or East of Eden did.

Funnily enough, it only took me a few minutes to remember that Kim Hunter (Stella) also played Zira in the Planet of the Apes movies, because I recognized her eyes.

I'll give the movie four stars simply on account of the powerhouse acting, although the Tennessee Williams story did not quite grab me.
Kim was also in Val Lewton's The Seventh Victim.

Yes! I forgot about that, mainly because I always associate her with the Apes films. The Seventh Victim is one of my favorites in that Lewton set.

Me, too. Are there any blu releases of his work Stateside other than Blue Angel? (and what's with the new Kino blu of that release? Is it a big enough step up to warrant a new blu?)

Also, was in a MOOC course an saw Street Angel by Frank Borzage. Worst picture quality I've seen since VHS but what a movie! If we can't get some of Borzage's work on blu, maybe he'd be a good Eclipse subject.

Think it was just a harmless cartoon in the Criterion Christmas-sales e-mail, but

(Can't be a hint, we already got the Zatoichi Box...)

While I'm sure you're right, we have only got 25 of the pre-remake Zatoichi films, number 26 is still unreleased: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202152/

And there's the TV series...

(But I still don't think this is hinting at anything)

I was not disappointed by any of the upgrades that I purchased.

Right now, I'm watching the Elia Kazan documentary on the Blu-ray of A Streetcar Named Desire, and they are discussing his work on On the Waterfront.

I wonder if Criterion would ever release Minnelli's "The Clock".

Don't know-It would be a good double feature with Brief Encounter.

I would love if anyone would release his The Pirate.

I'm happy with the DVD, but it's certainly a deserving film

What does everyone think of The Forgiveness of Blood? I'm pretty sure the cover art is one of the best criterion has ever done.

Could be a clue for Takeshi Kitano's remake perhaps? Although I'd guess it's not a hint, just a cartoon about the release of the 25 film set.

It's on Netflix. Stream it first because some of us think it is a very heavyhanded yet undercooked piece of filmmaking. It's one of my few blind-buy regrets.
