Well people can be pretty darn dumb. This kind of thing happens even with major studio announcements that don't come on a once-a-month basis. Every time some less popular catalogue titles are announced, it's apparently required by law that some genius post "They can announce this crap, but still no *insert big mainstream title that won't come until a great promotional tie-in opportunity arises*?!? "

Happy bday! The one thing I've NEVER received from my family is DVDs or blu-rays... they always assume I buy them when they come out (and I usually do), so even though I own maybe 200+ they have never given me one lol

I'd much rather see a blu for something like M.Hulot's Holiday, Bicycle Thieves, Hiroshima Mon Amour or surprise us with a Rivette

Also, I believe Red Riding Trilogy is IFC controlled. I'd imagine CC wants to release that one...
La Belle Noisuese... please! Rivette is a master.

Thanks . We ask each other what they want, so you'd get what you actually asked for. I actually tried for a couple of years to not ask as much DVDs/blu-rays because it became a bit predictable. But now I just ask what seems like a good gift to give, if that makes sense.

Was Hiroshima Mon Amour ever said to be in line for a blu release, or is that just something you would like to see?
It's never been mentioned but I think it's a good idea. Resnais is still alive and he could oversee the transfer (like he did with the magnificent LYAM). Hiroshima is an incredibly beautiful film.

Just watched Gomorrah and all I can say is, "Wow". I'm still not sure if I even understood what's going on but the movie definitely exceeded my expectations. Regardless, it's an incredibly compelling story and a very well-made movie. If I were looking for something to complain about it might be that it took quite a bit from Traffic and City of God (as if that's a criticism).

Between Gomorrah and Revanche Criterion has really impressed me lately. Now if I can only be patient for M to drop to a reasonable price...

Personally, I could take the film or leave it but I don't think it took from either movie you mentioned. Besides, its based on a true crime novel so its not even really fiction.

I didn't mean to imply it was ripping off those other movies. I meant it was similar in regard to story line and style. Gomorrah, like City of God, is about crime in the slums. Like Traffic it has parallel narratives and dealt with a drug economy.

HOLY HELL! Sorry for that.

I have wanted that movie for a long long time. I can't believe I never heard that Blu-Underground was releasing it. The trailer came out on oneof those 42nd street dvds but never had a dvd release. Now on blu! Wow. You sir, I thank you for bringing this to my attention. Now, my most waited release (not counting this month's titles and Red Desert), unless something shocking comes from Criterion.

Wow...and I thought $30.00 was a good price! Remember...it's (2) BDs...

I don't think you'll be disappointed by the PQ...both PQ and AQ are stellar!

"Part One" is in 2.35:1 and "Part Two" is in 1.78:1 Aspect ratios. Part One was done this way, as Soderbergh wanted it to look more like an "older movie" (as it was the earlier part of his life), but wanted more of a "full screen" look to Part Two (please refer to Supplements on both Part One and Part Two, for a more accurate explanation from Soderbergh and company).

Plus, it's pretty much the first feature length production shot on the R1 digital camera. It has ok low light shots but overall it looks very good and is easily a 4 out of 5 (and you will appreciate it even more when you watch the extras on the camera and realize they were essentially using a prototype build 1 version full of kinks without the vast amount of expertise that exists with the newer builds within the field AND the low budget they had woupled with the time constraints filiming essentially in the middle of nowhere).

I hope Criterion Release the following Titles on Blu-Ray at some stage.

Thrist:It would be nice if Universal Let CC handle the Blu-Ray for this.

Grave Of The FireFlies:A title that does not really tick all the boxes for Disney to release and Section 23 may or may not have BD Rights.IF they don't would love a CC Version.

Princess Mononoke:Same as above except Miramax Holds the right, but has worked with Criterion in the past.

Only Yesterday:A Title that stays in limbo which could Benefit From A Studio like Criterion getting behind it.

American Splendor:a Lost classic imo.Wishful thinking but would love a CC Version.

To anyone from Criterion who may be reading this thread,Keep up the great work.

I have Supported your Line for a long time.

American Splendor is legendary in my neighborhood. Harvey and Joyce love the near East-side neighborhood.

Great film. Would love to see CC do it!

I really liked Princess Mononoke. I think CG's head might explode if Criterion released a samurai themed anime film though.
