My guess is that they haven't updated their website. All of the older titles seem to have the "check store availability" button, just not the ones released since the last sale.

Best bet is to call your local store.

Thinking of doing a B1G1 Eclipse box set purchase. My first choice is the Early Bergman set, not sure what else should I get. Thinking of the Japanese noir set Nikkatsu Noir or the Robert Downey Sr. Any thoughts, suggestions??

The pic does look edited. The white area around the words and you can see the bottom of the P that goes beyond that doesn't really line up. Maybe this was something that was edited out before release. Personally I've never heard that phrase before. Eat more Possum.

It's not always easy to be an '80s kid.
I also could not watch Lily Tomlin in Nashville without thinking about The Incredible Shrinking Woman.

I think I've posted this before, but I (oddly enough) don't have any of the Eclipse sets yet. The ones I'd be most interested in getting would be:

Early Bergman
Late Ozu
The First Films of Samuel Fuller
Postwar Kurosawa
Lubitsch Musicals
Silent Ozu -- Three Family Comedies
Kenji Mizoguchi's Fallen Women
Nikkatsu Noir
The First Films of Akira Kurosawa
Masaki Kobayashi Against the System
Early Fassbinder
Late Ray

Canada Amazon Deals

I've never really thought to look at the Deals on Amazon before so I'm not 100% sure how often Criterion's are featured. Do they come up for sale quite often or is it random?

I have signed up for email alerts at .com and will do the same for .ca I presume each site will have different deals??

The two Kurosawa Eclipse sets are both superb.

I'm also a big fan of the When Horror Came to Shochiku set. People laugh at The X from Outer Space, but I love it just the same.

Thanks, I've looked at a few of those. And I think I posted something like this before as well... just couldn't find it.

They come up quite randomly. Speaking honestly, I'm quite disappointed with Amazon. And this is coming from a person who used to worship at the altar of Jeff Bezos. I even wrote a term paper on Jeff Bezos in my Business Management class a few years back! (scored an 'A'!) Anyway, since the post-Thanksgiving Day sales, I've been waiting for Amazon to mark down their Criterion titles. Well, since that time, I've purchased from deepdiscountdvd, buy.com, bestbuy, and oh.. I got 'lucky' with one of Amazon's lightning deals. I got shut out on another.

But to address your question - the 'Deals' tool on this site is very helpful. This will alert you to sales at Amazon. You can query by studio.. just select Criterion. Also, the price tracker tool is pretty helpful. If there is a title you want, just set the price tracking tool. It will show you a graph detailing the price history for a disc. You can see what the historical low price was. That is usually the price I shoot for. I'm pretty patient being that I can barely find the time to hibernate into my cave as it is to enjoy these films in hi-def.

So, in short.. just keep your eyes peeled everywhere for the best deals! Hope that helps.

Cheers for that. Can you set an email alert for "lightening deals" or will that be covered under my "deals alert"?

The price tracker sounds interesting, again, can you set email alerts?

I'm pretty sure that it is covered under your deals alert that you set. I'm not certain, but I think that the lightning deals might only be during this holiday season... hmm... Not sure.

The price tracker, is that an Amazon tool? I can't find anything other than a FF Add-on.

I need to another trawl through the Critetion catalogue to see if anymore films need adding to my shopping list

I've been underwhelmed with Amazon's "lightning deals" this season. Seems to me they had better deals last holiday season. As for their Criterions, they must only put a very limited number on sale at the "lightning" price. I was lucky to pick up 12 Angry Men, but I was shut out on 2 others. They all sold out within the first minute or two.

For that reason alone, I'm not sure setting up an email alert will help in snagging lightning deals. By the time you receive the email, it will be too late. Park yourself on the lightning deals page, and when the deal goes live, pull the trigger. Good luck.

So you can find out in advance what the deals will be? I need to have a good look around the site.

No. It's on this site. Search for a movie you are interested in. Then, right under the cover art, you have a few options - one of which is 'set price tracking.'

I'm 99% certain Dazed and Confused was not edited by Criterion.

It read "EAT MORE POSSUM" in the print I saw in August.

My brother stole my Criterion edition of D&C. Could you guys pop it in, go to the scene with Linklater's commentary on and hear what he says about it?
