A little different but, years ago, when I bought the dvd of Frankenheimer's The Gypsy Moths in one of the first scenes the three main characters are talking to someone with a fogged-over t-shirt. Bugs the hell out of me to this day.

I want to say that the graffiti in Dazed and Confused has always said, "Eat More Possum." I saw it in the theater on opening night back in 1993, and have seen it in every format since, but I do not remember noticing the graffiti either way during the initial theatrical viewing.

It's such a brilliant movie.

Go to Amazon.com, click the "today's deals" link. There you will see all of the lightning deals for the next 24 hours. There may be another link that lists deals further in the future than 24 hours, but I'm not aware of it.

My quick lunch trip to BN ended up taking much longer than I planned.

Bought both the Early Bergman and When Horror Came to Shochiku sets, but the Bergman was out of stock in store. Poor lady had no idea how to check me out with me paying up front for both so I could get the deal. Ended up having 4 employees back there with us, and a manager on the phone. They were all super helpful, but it was kind of comical, we were all laughing. Even figured out a way to take the 25% coupon that I got in the mail today, which was more complicated than usual since ordered half of the order online to be shipped. All-in-all, both sets came to $52. I really love the local BN people, they are the most helpful of all the customer service/cashiers we have locally... except for Chick-fil-A ("my pleasure").

Thanks for the suggestions on these box sets!

The Best Years of Our Lives is a tremendous film. I bought the Blu-ray last month.

I never did write a User Review for this one, because I'm over the idea of writing long-winded reviews for every single Blu-ray purchase, but it has my enthusiastic recommendation.

Billy Wilder loved the film. He knew Wyler pretty well.

Wilder called the film "very, very good" which is often the way he described his favorites.

Speaking of Wilder, it looks as though I'm going to be double-dipping when the domestic Blu-ray of Sabrina comes out next year. Apparently, Warner is issuing this one in its proper screen ratio for the first time on home video. Fortunately, the UK release that I have was so inexpensive that it does not bother me.

My brother stole my Criterion edition of D&C. Could you guys pop it in, go to the scene with Linklater's commentary on and hear what he says about it?

i'm certainly not accusing Criterion of editing the movie, i just can't understand why it was done at all. i must never have noticed the change on my old DVD copy, but the VHS i had as a teenager got well worn & i quite distinctly remember it the other way (it was a rather titillating suggestion for someone my age at the time).

i've listened to Linklater's commentary on the movie, but i don't recall him making any mention of it. i'll try to check on that again... it seems i'm not the only one who remembers the line differently, though.

It is a film I held back on buying until the Blu-ray was released. Looking forward to it

I'm finally all caught up with my WKW films with my viewing just now of In The Mood For Love.

Like all his films, the plot descriptions do not give them any justice. They must truly be experienced because they are honestly some of the most tragic and emotional works that I've probably ever seen.

The short film included on the release of In The Mood For Love was exceptionally emotional, as well.

Here's to hoping that Criterion releases some more of his films next year (2046 / Days of Being Wild).

The miraculous thing about that film is how the plot line involving Harold Russel never feels mawkish or manipulative. If memory serves, it was his first big screen performance, and a tremendous one at that.

If we could get a Wyler film on CC BluRay, I hope it would be The Heiress. I believe you're a huge fan of Olivia de Havilland too, so I think you're right there with me.

It appears that the Criterion release of Phantom of the Paradise will not happen any time soon. That's fine though, as Shout Factory will give it the care and respect it was previously neglected.

so I saw Pather Panchali a few nights ago... needless to say because I think everyone is expecting it, but this will make a fantastic Criterion title. because many of us are seeing some of these older films in reverse chronology, I think no one will hold it against me if I say that I was reminded of David Gordon Green's film George Washington - of course, that is to say that Green was probably influenced by Ray. anyhow, it's amazing how the film manages to hold your undivided attention simply by detailing day to day life in a culture and milieu that is so different than ours. I read that Ray had next to nothing for a budget when he began filming and had never directed anything prior to this. considering his starting point, the film truly is a miracle.

Can't wait to see it in the collection. The DVD shows a lot of scratches, tears, damage, etc. The audio isn't too clear either. wonderful film, though.

Harold Russell's performance is for the ages. I'm astounded at how well The Best Years of Our Lives handled that story element.

I'll get behind a release of The Heiress. Speaking of Olivia de Havilland, I really ought to put The Dark Mirror at the top of my Olive Films stack for this weekend.

The Heiress would be great but my vote for the Wyler film I would like to see most handled by Criterion would have to be hands down Dodsworth.
