Last night I watched Shadow of A Doubt as part of my Christmas Movie marathon. Here's the link to the review: https://www.blu-ray.com/Shadow-of-a-...ow=userreviews I would post a review, but it's not Criterion related. You know what is Criterion related? Bicycle Thieves. That's tonight's selection. I'll post a review tomorrow (here and on the film review section).

I might get that film for Christmas (Criterion release). I know I asked for it. But I won't know for 2 weeks. Can't wait for Christmas.

I might get Repo Man, Eating Raoul, and Videodrome.

Also, Barnes and Noble chose the wrong time of season to give me a Criterion Buy 1, Get 1 coupon.

I'll get behind a release of The Heiress. Speaking of Olivia de Havilland, I really ought to put The Dark Mirror at the top of my Olive Films stack for this weekend.
Well, I honestly don't remember much of The Dark Mirror...and I saw it only this last summer. It's one of the Olive titles that didn't stick with me. Your mileage may vary.

+1 on the Dodsworth love. I saw it on my fifteen inch laptop screen three years ago, and I was completely immersed in it.

The t-shirt probably had a trademarked logo that they were able to clear the rights on when the film was made, but not when they released the DVD.

I imagine that Kino probably still has the rights to Days of Being Wild, since they released it on DVD.

If we could get a Wyler film on CC BluRay, I hope it would be The Heiress. I believe you're a huge fan of Olivia de Havilland too, so I think you're right there with me.
It's fascinating to watch her character change over the course of the film.

Hopefully an upgrade is just around the corner, then.

Wyler's Jezebel would be a great Criterion (or any blu) title also, Davis is amazing. Robert A Harris calls it one of his favourites and seems to be pushing for it in particular.

Looking forward to see how this one grows on me, because I felt more devastated after my first viewing of Shortcuts.

Also, 'blindbuy' is in quotes, because I don't consider buying anything by Altman as a blindbuy. I know I'll love it.

Shadow of a Doubt is brilliant cinema, and it's one of my favorite Hitchcock films. Thanks for sharing the review!

Speaking of Eclipse sets. I'm eying a few myself.

Anyone got opinions on the following sets?

Presenting Sacha Guitry
Aki Kaurismaki Proletariat Trilogy
Basil Dearden's London Underground
Masaki Kobayashi Against the System

Wyler directed Bette Davis in three different films. While Jezebel is a wonderful film, I'd go with The Letter from 1940.

William Wyler IMO was an excellent director and I saw mentioned a few posts back The Heiress and Dodsworth. Both are wonderful films.

I loved the Dearden set, all 4 films were enjoyable and well made. The Kobayashi set is on my "buy after Christmas" list.

Didn't have much interest in the first 2 though.

I just finished Blue Is the Warmest Color and it floored me beyond all expectations. I had a huge grin on my face during the first half and the back half had me as devastated as the first half had me ecstatic. I think every year has one film that is an absolute masterpiece, last year being The Master and 2011 being The Tree of Life, and I believe this is 2013's masterpiece. If the rumored cut with an extra 40 minutes does come to fruition with Criterion's proper release down the road, I completely welcome it. There are few films that verge on 3 hours that I would say are too short, but this is one of them. Let's just hope the full special edition comes before 2014 closes.

I'm not sure why, but I'm feeling pretty drawn towards the Sacha Guitry set, but I don't know all that much about it.

My wife and I really loved Le Havre, hence the Aki Kaurismäki set. looking forward to the upcoming La vie de bohème.

What's the general consensus on Les visiteurs du soir? It looks/sounds interesting but it seems to be another title that gets little to no mention around here as of late.
