Andy Warhol for sure. Us Australians are apparently getting Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula in January. Nothing on any site yet but the artwork was put up in a forum post a couple of weeks ago.

I've been asking for some Sirk or Von Sternberg since the Criterion Blu Ray era began basically. One of these days...

49th Parallel would be a nice upgrade candidate.

That would be awesome! The film accomplished the rate feat of being both one of the best looking color films of its era aswell as B&W.

I can't wait to see what's in store for us this afternoon.

I'm hoping the announcement will be for the Cronenberg and/or Lynch films. An upgrade for The Thief of Bagdad (1940) would be fantastic as well!

I hope we get Le Samourai and/or Kwaiden...
Since Woody Allen titles are getting released this year from Twilight Time, why not a Criterion release of Match Point ? Or In A Lonely Place with the great Humphrey Bogart..I hope theres something for everyone as always..Thief of Baghdad blu ray would be great..deep down Id love upgrades for Equinox, Carnival of Souls and Fiend Without A Face since I love horror !

Amen!

On the somwhat-neo-noir front...
I would not mind seeing upgrades of the original 1997 Insomnia, or the original 1988 The Vanishing.

Well, based on the Wexler talk, they are working on it, but it sounds like it will be a while.

Maureen O'Hara is another Golden Age star that's still around, to add to the list.

As for predictions, I also wouldn't be surprised to see Kiarostami's Like Someone in Love announced, as it's nigh time for a US announcement (the Artificial Eye release has been out for some time yet). It's at the top of my list of films for this year, so I'd be glad to see it getting such a release.

Other guesses:

Finally a Lynch title - Eraserhead perhaps? (a Lynch announcement this month or next could coincide neatly with the Twin Peaks set coming forth)
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (only because of the recent resto - I imagine Criterion will get to it eventually)
Hiroshima mon Amour
The Lady From Shanghai

I would love The Virgin Spring, but it looks like Persona and/or Cries and Whispers will be next, possibly with Liv & Ingmar.

My wishlist:

25th Hour
Le Samourai
More Antonioni
The Friends of Eddie Coyle

Really have my fingers crossed for The Friends of Eddie Coyle. I've held off buying the DVD for a couple years in hopes of a format upgrade. I'm doubtful though, considering the supplemental materials are pretty skimpy aside from the Peter Yates commentary. The PQ isn't too, too bad on the DVD either.

I have a feeling Criterion will be releasing Liv & Ingmar, which is fantastic, because I'd love to see it, but I'm curious if they will get it its own release or bundle it with an Ullman or Bergman film.

Is there a set rule to how many new films / upgrades they issue each month?

I don't think there's a set rule, but in recent months, they've tended to release six titles a month, with four or five being new (to Criterion) and one or two being upgrades.

I went to the Cronenberg exhibit at TIFF this weekend, and after taking a tour of each of his films in chronological order, and seeing props and scripts from the films (seeing the telepod in person was neat), I can honestly say...

I'm really ok with them *not* announcing any Cronenberg today.

The Fugitive Kind
The Killers (1946)

The Shop on Main Street
Short Cuts
Le Samourai
That's a sweet list. It's too bad that there is not a Blast of Silence upgrade for me to watch before Christmas this year. It's a great holiday film. ...in an offbeat sort of way.
