ahh, yes! your avatar! :-) last week it was just a dude on a bench.. now I got it! I agree about the lack of a score. Hitchcock's The Birds benefits from its lack of a score in a similar fashion.

For sure, I agree.
With Revanche, the whole ambiance creates such a unique experience. The lack of score with the setting in the European forest, the walking trails, the lake, the whole country setting is so perfect. I think that it's an underrated masterpiece.

For anyone who thinks they might announce an upgrade to a low spine # today, here are the 10 oldest in print not updated to blu spines:

22 - Summertime
29 - Picnic At Hanging Rock
31 - Great Expectations
32 - Oliver Twist
33 - Nanook Of The North*
34 - Andrei Rublev
40 - Armageddon
41 - Henry V
42 - Fishing With John
45 - Taste Of Cherry

I vote for Andrei Rublev.

*released on blu in US by Flicker Alley
Wasn't Fishing With John shot on video? Regardless, I don't see it getting an upgrade anytime soon.

Speaking of Eddie Coyle, anyone know why the Criterion DVD that came out just a few years back changes aspect ratios between after the starting credits are over?

It's one of my favorite films of all time and hands down one of my Top 10 Criterions.

I feel as if it's one of the most underappreciated films out there, though.

I was so engrossed the first time I saw Revanche that I did not even notice the lack of a score.

It is definitely one of my favorites in the Criterion Collection.

If you just buy them all there is no need to make lists

I know you already said that you added it to your list of Criterions to buy, but I'll also add to the praise and state that the film is utterly fantastic.

It does look fantastic, I might add it to my queue on Netflix to check it out. I still have to watch The Spirit of the Beehive first though.

And whatever you do, don't let Jeremy Irons bring his own OB/GYN surgical equipment...

Nobody ever mentions eXistenZ as the out-with-a-whimper "last true" Icky Cronenberg film (would have helped if they'd seen it in the theater, either), where the next generation of gaming involves permanent nervous-system input plants at the spine. (And I wasn't even planning to buy a PS4!)

I still have my blu-ray copy of Naked Lunch that I haven't opened yet because I still need to prepare myself to watch this again when I'm in the right mood.
As for Naked Lunch, not sure whether that one or Dead Ringers can be considered the "transitional" film from Cronenberg's "Icky" period to his "Crazy" period...It postdates Crash and M. Butterfly, so not sure where to put it on the filmography.
(And where is that .GIF of Bart Simpson and his friends sneaking into the Naked Lunch theater because it looked "cool"? I was expecting Classic Cronenberg Ickiness too, and got a rambling gay-movie that wasn't directed by Bryan Singer.)
