Actually, this would be a keen night to break out the Back to the Future Trilogy that I received in the mail a couple months back.

I'm going to stick to the plan and watch Shack Out on 101, though.

Tomorrow will probably play out the same way that last year's January 1st did, since I'm running a New Year's Day 10K race in the morning, and will probably not get back online until the Criterion cartoon hints have already been posted and everyone has already made their guesses.
That's okay, though. Just be sure to guess for In a Lonely Place, Gilda, and The Lady from Shanghai.

My Top 10 Movies of 2013:

1. All Is Lost
2. To the Wonder
3. 12 Years a Slave
4. Gravity
5. The Counselor
6. The Wolf of Wall Street
7. Blue is the Warmest Color
8. Oblivion
9. Mud
10. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

My Top 10 Albums of 2013 (Actually, the only albums I bought in 2013, as I had other entertainment priorities.):

1. Cut Copy - Free Your Mind
2. The Ocean Blue - Ultramarine
3. Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) - English Electric
4. Marnie - Crystal World
5. Visage - Hearts and Knives
6. My Bloody Valentine - m b v
7. Depeche Mode - Delta Machine
8. The National - Trouble Will Find Me
9. David Bowie - The Next Day
10. Johnny Marr - The Messenger

I did not read many 2013-publication books this year, but four notables are...

Doctor Sleep by Stephen King
The Tilted World by Tom Franklin and Beth Ann Fennelly
Joyland by Stephen King
The Thicket by Joe R. Lansdale
The National's album is great stuff. Probably my second favorite record of their's after Alligator.

Owl, Eric, Octogon,
I too am fluffing it out tonight. I'm planning a double feature of Jeff who Lives at Home and, maybe, the Hachi dog movie.

Owl, that album list suggests you're living in the past, my man...BIG TIME

Thank You in advance!
If it is still available, you should check out A Street of Love and Hope.

Oh yes. Don't forget, "She Cracked". Hopefully, we'll be getting our cartoon in ten minutes, so you may never see this post. That's David Robinson on the far left, drummer for The Cars and next to him Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads fame.

I'll throw in a rec for that one as well. I'd also suggest all five of these Nagisa Oshima Art Theatre Guild productions:

Death by Hanging
Diary of a Shinjuku Thief
Boy
The Man Who Put His Will on Film
The Ceremony

They'd make a great quintuple feature for NYE!

Yes! They are all in my queue. I hope they're better than Japanese Summer. Sure, it was striking to look at, but I really found little to latch onto as far as narrative and charicterization goes. I guess I like my Oshima intimate, like In the Realm of the Senses. You know, films where Oshima expressed his political concerns, but didn't lose sight of what his characters were feeling.

Which of those should I seek out first?

Happy New Year 2014

(I see
[Show spoiler]an exploding head, a box of Hulot, a fresh California bit of Will Vinton, and...too many angels to be just The Kid.

And lots and lots of red. And four...beetles? )

Could there be a Jacques Demy boxset in our future? Sure looks like it. In bottom right, I see Bay of Angels, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Donkey Skin.

Bit of a reach but is the dude in the box referring to Mulholand Dr?

(The box itself, The old man in the box)

Wild at Heart and Raisin in the Sun.

Some of last years clues didn't appear. There may be anti-clues there, too, like Picnic at (Crumbling) Rock.
