A few of the Criterion's have extra discount. Double Life of Veronique & Paths of Glory both are 27% off.

This is one reason why it has been years since I have watched a new show. I rented the first season of The Walking Dead about three years back, and I've been totally oblivious to anything since. The only television show that I own on Blu-ray is The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series.

I know that there are some shows out there now that I would probably become immersed in if I took the time to check them out, but I prefer to dedicate my free time to enjoying movies. I know that Seven Samurai, Army of Shadows, or On the Waterfront will not be canceled just as they're starting to get interesting.

I would say that Collateral and Miami Vice have elements of genius, but not Public Enemies.

I would probably say yes. It's definitely far more coherent.

That may be one that I make it out to. I'll likely pick from films that aren't yet available in HD (cutting out Criterion and MOC's releases).

I might have missed something but that clip Pro-B posted is from Beau travail by Claire Denis, not Lovers on the Bridge. Both are masterpieces with superb performances by Denis Lavant though.

Possibly even worse is to get involved in a tv show only to see it run completely off the rails at it's conclusion. There are a few tv series out there currently I try and keep up with, but you are right..give me a good blu ray any day of the week.

Genius is a word that has always been thrown around lightly.

I find Mann a good, entertaining director at most. The Insider and Heat being his best.

Mine usually was, at the time anyway. I recall seeing The Cook... and also Drowning By Numbers, back in those days. Recall liking them well enough, but that's mostly about all I recall.

Would like to see them again, and should bump Greenaway up on my see his other stuff too list. Never quite get around to it, probably holding out for those two to show up first to get the ball rolling. And now probably waiting on the blu-rays... yeah, that's it.

Note to self: dig out the Greenaways.

I think the last Network show that I was really committed to was The X-Files. Even that wore out it's welcome once the Mulder character became a guest appearance, or worse, a cameo. These days I enjoy some of the premium cable series like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, and Homeland on Blu-ray since I only have the most basic of cable.
Keeping this remotely Criterion-related: does anyone here own their The Golden Age of Television box set? I've been tempted by it for a long time but it keeps getting bumped by other titles.

I have the coffee mug, as well as the L'Avventura poster and I'm happy with them!

I actually attended a press conference with Carax discussing the various obstacles during the production process and Lavan't performance. Everything is there to see.

But there is this one other scene in another film that has probably immortalized Lavant in Europe (see below).

Arrow released Lovers... many years ago on DVD. Hopefully, they will manage to bring it Blu-ray. The best label to tackle this film, however, is Criterion.

Here's only a portion of the dance:

The Rhythm of The Night - YouTube

Pro-B
Oh, thank you so much for the detailed response, Pro-B! Beau Travail is a great movie! I
listened to that song nonstop last year and was always reminded by his startling dance.

Istarted to watch Lovers this afternoon, but I had to stop the stream as I thought the 1.33:1 aspect ratio was rather strange. I subsequently did some research and I found out it should have been in the traditional 1.66:1. Ugh, Netflix disappoints me so much.

I also tried to watch the 1983 Bette Gordon film, Variety, this week, but it was compressed (squished) to fit in a 1.33:1 frame. I may need to purchase it on Amazon Instant one of these days.

I've rented it--Get it on DVD while you can, it's from an 80's-rebroadcasted TV source (not from the original kinescope films themselves), so it's not coming to Blu.
But it's pretty good, if you like live stage-on-TV, or a fan of Rod Serling's work.

Thanks. I've seen the film versions of most of the titles so it would interesting to do comparisons. I have to confess that I have yet to watch the tv version of 12 Angry Men. One tv version of a film I'd love to see is The Petrified Forest with Bogart & Bacall. I don't even know if it still exists.

I've thought about buying the House T-shirt, but I'm probably obnoxious enough on a day-to-day basis without spelling it out with my clothing choices.
