Somehow I forgot to keep in the Peter Weir sentence. Such films as Picnic At Hanging Rock, My Brilliant Career, Breaker Morant, The Last Wave, The Chant Of Jimmie Blacksmith were more along the lines of what I was thinking. Meaning, I wouldn't consider these particular ones to be exploitation films. On the other hand, there was Mad Max also...

Looks like there's a wikipedia entry (Australian New Wave) by someone much more familiar with its scope than me. Lends credence to your exploitation perspective, but it was more than just that.

I'd also mention We Of The Never Never as one to avoid. It's still one of the most boring films I've ever seen.

I hope there is a later announcement for the Silents or Pialat to be on blu, since there is only 2 blus right now.

They're simply not gonna be able to put everything on Blu. People are gonna have to come to grip with that.

That being said, Everlasting Moments and Close Up took a day or two longer last month to get the Blu info up, so who knows.

I would go for both on Blu, esp the Silents, it wouldn't even be a question. It would be a day one purchase. On DVD it just leaves me thinking how great it could really look.

Don't talk down to me.

I am buying them dvd or blu. So I am just seeing if they are or not. Last month it took what a day or 2 later to make Close-up on blu, so we will see.

I can grip it, I just don't like it. They need to step it up. I know they will eventually be full out blu and DVD it is only a matter of time. It is just hard to see a bunch of releases you wish you could just do a blu purchase for, that may get passed over on DVD only.

I am very surprised none of the mentioned possible Amazon postings were even mentioned in the August lineup in fact these August titles are way off from what I expected.

Crumb does have a following for sure. The cover art is top notch.

The new Black Orpheus cover art is also great looking. Held out on a DVD purchase forever on that one. Day one on Blu.

Cool to finally have the early Kurosawas coming out. And the silents made it into the Criterion line, so at least there are some extras to go along with them.

Looks like maybe Criterion will now also be spewing out the Pialats that MoC's already put out. Sigh. Interesting choices for the blus, best I can come up with regarding my overall lack of excitement about those two; at least they'll look nice.

Edit: Maybe the Pialat will be a late blu announcement?

It is just nice to see them releasing 2 things they usually don't (silents and Pialat films). That Pialat was a surprise to me. Either way, would be nice to see either on blu, these 2 are my favs of the month.

Criterion has posted on facebook,

"We don't have the rights for the Sternbergs on Blu..."

Lame.

Then, bring the Pialat to blu.
