yeah and maybe its the language for me as well that matters. japanese and korean can sound really "powerfull" in my opinion... same for english of course or swedish. these do all sound "fine" to me. while french and italian same for spain does sound kinda annoying sometimes in classics (at least for me) and godard it the prime example for what i dont like.. this fast talking with the strange narrative he uses.
i got the same feeling from the "a man escaped" trailer... (i do like french cinema, but the more modern stuff is what i prefer so far) maybe its just the "french" new wave style that doesnt do it for me. i like the japanese new wave stuff way more or "noir" movies. but i dont get why people do often compare oshima to godard. oshima is way above godard in my opinion in terms for "style" and how the movies are cut. (godard has probably the worst style for editing movies and narrative ive ever experince since i watch movies.....) Last edited by Mansinthe; 01-10-2014 at 06:01 AM. |

it was acutally a movie i did think about not watching till the end..(and that rarely happens, if it does ever at all ) sometimes its really sad to see Kino doing movies like Sacrifice and nostalghia while i would love to see them from Criterion. instead criterion is doing stuff like fantastic mr. fox and thief... .. oh well... Which film in the Martin Scorsese World Cinema Project box is a must see? Usually all of the brand new releases at my library are picked over and I usually can't get a hold of a film until it has been out for several months. These, however, don't seem to be getting the patrons of my library too excited.
I'm thinking Housemaid. Should I grab this one if I can? It's nice, though, because everything from City Lights/Frances Ha (was that 2 months ago?) onward is available at the library in blu. ![]() |

Yes, it's pretty awesome, indeed! It's a 5 minute drive on my lunch break and rarely, if ever, do I search for a film in their database and they don't have it. The only thing that kinda stinks is that because I am not a resident of the town, I can't put a hold on anything. I really want to see Smiles of a Summer Night and Brief Encounter and they have been checked out for weeks. I can just imagine some doofus brought them home and they are just sitting on his/her TV cabinet.. every week when the renewal notification comes, they're just renewing the darn thing. Argh!

Our libraries do not have the budget to buy any blu-rays, unfortunately. And they are getting fewer copies of new books, films, etc. They do have a policy that nothing can be renewed if there is someone on the waiting list for it, though. And rentals cost $1.00 for a week. I rarely borrow DVDs as they can only be returned to the counter during business hours, which makes it a bit inconvenient. I was pleasantly surprised at the selection the last time I browsed, though.
