I plan to get Tess, which I haven't seen in a very long time. I like Polanski's films. I can and do separate the film from everything else.

Blimey, is the transfer of Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion gorgeous or what? I don't usually come out with the "looks like it was filmed yesterday" because a lot of little things always detract from that but this picture is the closest I've seen to fulfilling that description yet.

It's a phenomenal film, as well (though a bit on-the-nose, I suppose...)

Having grown up watching silent comedies, I just thought it was much better done (the comedy) during the silent era.

But since then, I have watched Mon Oncle and Playtime and had the opposite reaction. I enjoyed both films much much more than Mr. Hulot's Holiday. Mon Oncle especially is a visual treat and would look especially great in blu...and reason enough for me to be interested in the upcoming Tati set, if any, from Criterion. I'll be willing to give Mr. Hulot's Holiday another shot then.
That was pretty much my experience too. Trafic was a bit of a drag for me as well.

All I know is I'm having a heck of a time getting a refund for discs they've had since 12/23, got one (pretty vague) response to 3 emails at this point (so I suppose the fact that there is/was somebody home indicates there may still be a pulse). Calling them tomorrow or Friday.

Hey man. Well I'm technically originally from NYC, so I'm a giants fan. But I know plenty of ravens fans and they all give "ray-ray" as they say here, a pass. no one even brings it up which is alittle nuts in a way...

This? http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/rac...s-meryl-670039

She was six when Walt died.

And her words say 'he was a product of his times' and that he made the Jungle Book.

That doesn't come close to supporting the claims of Streep.

Never said she proved Streeps claims, only that she defended her. And she may have been 6 but I'd wager her opinion of her family is more accurate than most.

I put the whole issue of Polanski's past vs. his films in the same light as I do the usual faction of Vietnam vets who show up at the red carpet to protest Jane Fonda, every time she's nominated for an Oscar:
Ie., "...She's SEVENTY-FIVE F***IN' YEARS OLD!!! Whatever young-upstart celebrity urge made her show off radical thoughts in public forty years ago must have been long since worked out of her system by now!"
(I'd put the cutoff date somewhere between "9 to 5" and "Georgia Rules".)

Similarly, I don't think Polanski's been living the "life of luxury" in exile after his offense, as if he's sipping champagne on the French Riviera like the Great Train Robbery fugitives. In our country, you're put on trial once for one offense, it's meted out, and we move on.
I don't want to make the director of several AFI100 films look like Jean Freakin' Valjean, but seriously, would some of these "Never forget!" bashers please just take that dive off the bridge?

Which is about as complete urban myth as you can get.
(It's already "myth", it became urban myth when we all wanted something to attack the corporation with in the 70's and 80's.)

"As if the 'King of the Jungle' number wasn't proof enough!! "

Oh, good lord......Nono, wait, don't tell me--In addition to believing every other dopey anti-Walt myth--and not even getting a simple title correct--she's one of those folks who think King Louie was black? ("Well, he was Louis Armstrong, wasn't he?")
[Show spoiler]Uh, Louis Prima was ITALIAN, last time I checked.

(check-mark) Okay, what other dopey urban-myths does she feel like spouting?...C'mon, Meryl, go for it, do the one about Walt frozen under the castle, for the hat trick!

You mean his granddaughter that was six years old when he died? Yeah, I don't put much weight in her assessment of her grandfather's character, especially when compared to hundreds of others who knew him better and spent far more time with him, as well as the historical documents that back him up as just what I described: a good man that was actually far less racist/misogynistic/biased than most of his contemporaries but also was insensitive to PC matters like 99.999% of the country.

Honestly, even if he was those things it'd be really stupid to be angry at him for them. They guy was raised in early 1900s Missouri for christs sake. Nobody should be shocked to find out they didn't live by todays PC standards.
On top of that about half of his animation staff was Jewish so clearly he wasn't that against them.

Than the adults who worked with him and knew him at the time, and biographers of his and the artists that worked with him? I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that.

Why? What great insight into the character of your elders did YOU have when you were six years old?
