I have the Ernest Hemingway short story, "The Killers", here at home in a Hemingway anthology collection. It's a quick read, but it has a great mix of intensity and sadness. I'm looking forward to seeing how a full-length movie adaptation plays out.

I was never sure why Universal dropped the line after only four.
The Universal noir title I was hoping for is Ride the Pink Horse. Directed by and starring Robert Montgomery. Very good noir that doesn't seem to get much attention.

DigiPacks lead to DigiPpointments. (Boo on the pun but I chuckled a little)

Just finished watching Peter Bogdanovich debut film Targets and it was really good, the only others i have seen are The Last Picture Show and Paper Moon and they all are fantastic films, it would be great if Criterion could get their hands on more of his films since they seem to be neglected by the other labels.

Well, they do have a black outline. Could probably stand to be a bit thicker, though.

2012 was on February 14
2013 on February 26

so who knows this time, but it will probably be on a Tuesday like previous flash sales.

It's a good film, no doubt, but let's just say you'll definitely know where the Hemingway story ends and the rest begins, even if you weren't familiar with the source material (like I was).

I've been wanting for Target to be upgraded to Blu-ray for a long time now. It's probably just a matter of time. The Last Picture Show is a true gem.

im not much a fan of digipacks and steelbook stuff. i prefer a simple amaray. everything in the shelf looks the same. its "clean" and everything.. a broken clear case is easy and cheap to replace as well...

im not that happy with the new digipacks as well. since they look fragile like the old ones used for 400 blows etc... and even the better ones that are used for seven samurai , on the waterfront do not look that "premium" to me.

==================
not criterion related but i did just read some news von gmx.de about woody allen and his "daughter" that again is claiming that she was sexually abused by him when she was ~7 yo.
he was recently nominated for the oscar for his last movie "blue jasmine"..

that reminds me about the recent talk about polanski... ..

(feel free to ignore the last part of this post...)

His entire ex-family seem like a bunch of jilted grade school ex-girlfriends. From what I've read, and if I missed it correct me, there was no proof to back up any of her accusations, right? Every time he is in the news, they come out of the woodwork crying on twitter or any social media site they can mind.

Mia Farrow just appears more and more childish as time goes on.

I'm sorry if this is OT but a theater near me is showing Alphaville and Pierrot le fou today. They are both criterion titles so I was wondering which one do you guys prefer?

I was actually planning on going to those today, but I ended up going down on Friday for Visitors/The Great Beauty/Contempt. I prefer Pierrot, and I'm fairly certain that seems to be the general consensus surrounding those two films.

And the Farrow clan now looks more petty and vindictive, akin to the classiest dirt bags in society.

Thanks for the interesting read.
