BIG NIGHT is a fun film, but I think MOSTLY MARTHA is even better in the food genre. Unfortunately it's only on DVD and not Blu-ray, but its moderately entertaining American remake (NO RESERVATIONS) is available on an okay-looking Blu-ray. For something a bit more off-beat on a very nice-looking Blu-ray, there's also A WOMAN, A GUN, AND A NOODLE SHOP, which is actually a rather crazy Chinese remake of the Coen brothers' BLOOD SIMPLE.

I've never seen L'eclisse (I'd like to) and didn't realize that the film is regarded as highly as it is.

Has to be one of the greatest film posters of all time. What a great photo! Hopefully, I'll enjoy the film and then won't feel silly about hanging it up in the house.

I bought the DVD of this way back before I even knew who Criterion was or what they were about. I have since upgraded it to bluray, but haven't watched it yet. (I know, shame on me). Love the rhythm/beat/pulse of the music through much of the film!

It's fantastic, but the whole run from L'avventura to Red Desert is. The only Antonioni film I've seen is Identification of a Woman, which I didn't much care for.

L'Eclisse is my favorite of his trilogy. I pray that we get L'Avventura and L'Eclisse upgrades within the next few months.

Hard Eight is a film that I've been pushing for Criterion to release for the last few years. I think it would fit perfectly in the collection with a fabulous performance from Philip Baker Hall especially. It's even more fitting now with Philip Seymour Hoffman having died, to see this release come out this year. I have got Blow Up to watch, as well as Le amiche and La signora senza camelie, which both went missing during my family's recent move and still haven't turned up. Have you watched Beyond the Clouds? A collaboration between Antonioni and Wenders sounds fascinating.

It's a great film. The Arcade Fire use it in the video for Afterlife off their new album.

I've also seen The Naked City and I liked what I saw.

Agreed. This would be a no-brainer. I understand that Brute Force has been released on Blu-ray in Germany, so we may see it sooner than the rest, though.

Along these lines, Criterion emailed me today that my DVD of The Killers has shipped. Looking forward to going through both versions of the film this weekend.

I have a region free blu ray player that works great and lets me chose whichever region after entering a code on the menu. It's a soniq b100. I don't know if they still make them or if they sell them outside of Australia, but they are really handy if you have a few locked releases.

Rififi was incredible and I really loved Thieves' Highway but haven't seen the other 3 yet. They're all in my Netflix queue but if they're like the other 2... I should be in for a treat.

I recorded TCM's broadcast of Babette's Feast today so I'm looking forward to seeing it.
