Does anyone here know if this is a bootleg?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/In-A-Lonely-...item20ccc80f43

I know a blu ray of this is ready and waiting to be pressed so I'm looking for a cheap alternative and the US disc is too much.

It's listed as brand new, factory sealed, and the seller has good feedback, so I don't think it is.

Not a clue. The seller has 98.8% positive feedback, and claims that he's sold 60 of those puppies, so I imagine it's at least of reasonably good quality.

Where have you heard about a US Blu-ray release?

They restored this movie years ago for HD and presented a restoration clip on their website in an ad if I remember correctly. I've been waiting ever since

I ask if it's a bootleg because I didn't find any reviews or legitimate media about it after a quick search.

Sorry Sammy I totally disagree with you. All the directors you have mentioned focus more in the nuances of themes of the story and carry more emotional weight than Wes' superficial story content. Wes cares more about the production minutiae than the story. Plus his story formula is very redundant.

Here is the basis to all Wes' films:

A subpar father (or lack of one) causes a family to be dysfunctional. The end is a reconciliation of the family or group. The end.

Except for Moonrise Kingdom, Bottle Rocket, Rushmore and his newest one you mean.

I've never seen Bob Le Lampbeur, but I actually received Le Doulous from Netflix yesterday.

Sadly, none of this really means anything. New and "factory sealed" means absolutely nothing. Even the feedback really means nothing in this circumstance. Most people can't recognize a bootleg that spoofs the real thing very closely. I've bought from ebay sellers with incredibly high feedback, and upon receiving my item I was 99.99% sure it was a bootleg. Not that it stood out to me immediately, but there were little things that looked off about it (like the printing on the art was slightly lower, or the case was slightly different, or the disc just didn't quite look right compared to the REAL release I compared it to). My ultimate conclusion on them was FAKE, even though it was good enough fascimile that I'm sure 99/100 people would never give it a 2nd thought.

I would actually say it's a very strong possibility of being a bootleg. Assuming there even is a legit Asian release with the same cover art as the OOP American version, even if such a release exists odds are this would be a counterfeit.

The fact he had 60 copies makes it more likely to be a bootleg pressing IMO.

Yeah there's quite a few reasons I thought it was not a legitimate release. One being I can't find any concrete info on a HK DVD being reviewed or licensed. Even the HK sites sell the UK import as far as I saw. The next thing was the price: $6 shipped v $30+ shipped for the US disc. I was tempted but thought to ask here first possibly someone would be in the know. I just don't want to get it and have the quality be a torrent download or something, I'm looking for a DVD quality version to hold me over until sony stops wasting their resources. Even though it's really cheap I think I will just keep waiting.

Yeah, it all depends on the definition of "factory," which may be in someone's garage or storage unit. Shrink wrapping equipment is cheap, too.

If I see kanji on the cover, and it's not Japanese, I think "bootleg" even when it's real.

I just placed the order. Here's looking forward to the Controversial Classics Collection arriving at my doorstep next week.

It'll be fun to see Bad Day at Black Rock again.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Anne Francis in both of her movies in this set, and maybe having the set on the shelf by my Forbidden Planet Blu-ray.
Anne Francis....ahhhh.

I do not pick up any television channels (by choice). I just have a Blu-ray player hooked up to an HDTV.

My parents are big fans of TCM, though, and I like to direct them to good flicks. When I visited them for a couple of days over Christmas, we had fun revisiting Rio Bravo together on that channel.
