Off topic but it's been discussed before. I'm halfway through the Controversial Classics boxed set.

Fury was awesome. I really felt myself getting angry at the characters in the movie for the way they acted and for the complacency of others in all of it. Spencer Tracy does an amazing job essentially playing two roles. A solid US directorial debut for Fritz Lang.

A Face in the Crowd. Wow. I've seen a lot of Andy Griffith but he's never been as great as he was in this one.

Thanks for the reviews. I've ordered this from Amazon, and am waiting for them to ship it.

Bummer. DD already shipped my copy. Normally they take a few days to get the order in the mail. Shipping on the other hand, well let's just say it's not the fastest! Hopefully it ships from Kentucky instead of California this time.

Excuse me but this is my first post about the company Criterion. They are a great company on restoring independent and classic movies.Has anyone here ever put up a Criterion wish list on what they would like to see released from the company here on this forum?Well, mine is seeing the 1973 documentary Wattstax.I think that they would do a wonderful job on restoring the picture and sound and with more extras and should be an improvement than the Dvd version that came out a decade ago.I hope that Columbia Pictures and Stax Records would also get involved in the project.

Great suggestion. I was thinking about that the other day when i was trying to figure out whether I wanted to upgrade my DVD of Monterey Pop.

Technically, there's a subforum for wishlists, but the rules are relaxed in this thread. There's a rumour that some of the predictions for the monthly announcements are, in fact, thinly veiled wishlists.

Your best bet is creating a My Criterion account at http://www.criterion.com. When making your profile they have a spot to include the title you want to see in the collection.

Deep down - in places you don't like to talk about at parties - we all want Criterion to release The Ghost and Mr Chicken.

Might be of interest to some - my local BN has a special "Award-Winners" display of titles "up to 50% off." There were some notable Criterion BDs at 30% off, inc. The Red Shoes and A Night to Remember as well as several DVDs. Presumably this sale will last until Marchish when the Oscars happen, so there's a chance it could be combined witha 15% and/or 20% off coupon for some pretty substantial savings off MSRP.

That film scared me so much when I was younger; there's something about an organ playing by itself in a creepy house that got to me.

It has always been one of my favorites, it's a really fun film.

The soundtrack sounds incredible on the Criterion Blu-ray, it's a revelation that it sounds that good!

I'm still not completely understanding the fascination w/ buying Criterions from B&N. I don't know the order in which coupons are "stacked" but 30% off a 39.99 MSRP equals $27.99. If you have a coupon for 20%, it's $22.39. If you're a member, you take another 10% off so $20.15. Plus sales tax.. AND you pay $25 annually to get these "deals."

I buy a lot of books and films from B&N; I think the membership is worth every penny.

Of course, you never buy new releases at B&N; but you can find some awesome Blu-ray deals if you use the coupons they send you.

In regards to Criterion; B&N is the best place to buy them if you can get a deal.

I view the membership as a basic way to not have to account for tax when having to buy something - it'll always be just a little bet less than the price of the item listed. So long as you spend $250 it's a perfectly reasonable way to keep costs down (plus you get sent 20% coupons every other weekish instead of 15% off, amongst 2 additional coupons every few months). I'd say any given year I probably spend around $650 at BN for one reason or another so it seems a totally reasonable way to lower costs.

I buy 90% of my Criterions (and I buy them all) at the 2 yearly B&N sales and the 2 yearly Criterion.com flash sales. The money i save with the extra 10% off, not to mention the additional member coupon savings, far exceeds the paltry $25 a year. Sure, if you only buy one Criterion (as your example illustrates) its probably not worth the $25, but im guessing those who opt for membership are probably purchasing at higher volumes.
