Finally got my Brazil 3-disc set which had a slit on the spine of the outer case that holds the 3 DVDs though it being $19 (shipped) and new I don't mind too much since the DVDs are fine.
I watched the Final Cut and kept thinking it would be great on Blu-ray. I hope to read the book its based on since some of it was confusing at times though it was overall a brilliant piece of film. I hope to watch the bonus disc and the "Love Conquers All" version soon. I saw somewhere that Criterion lost the rights to Brazil, is that true? I'm so glad I got my copy, now I need to watch other Terry Gilliam films since I've already since Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. So far I've loved all three of his films I've watched. I wished he did Harry Potter by the wishes of J.K. Rowling. It would have been interesting. |

Didn't realize this but I guess theauteurs.com (which the Criterion website uses as a forum for social network among other cineaste) has changed its name to mubi.com.
Explanation here. And the official explanation. And how Criterion came to work with what is now mubi.com. Last edited by kndy; 05-16-2010 at 04:04 AM. |

I read your post on the site. But to add what I just quoted from you about directors that are included on the site that shouldn't, the auteurs that do deserve a spot on the site, they don't even have most of the films from those auteurs. So yeah, it's kind of been turning into something that defeats the purpose of it in the first place, so not surprised by this at all.

I have a confession to make: I only became a cinephile after I founded The Auteurs. Yes, I loved Chunking Express and Band of Outsiders, but I’ve never followed Cannes or Berlin, or passionately hunted down obscure films. I also knew absolutely nothing about film distribution. But I knew two things really well: 1) how to build Web applications, from concept to interface design to programming; and 2) how to do deals. Last May, I saw a very big market opportunity: nobody offered a good selection of movies, and the right user-experience, online. It was unbelievable; that story about me wanting to watch In the Mood for Love online in Tokyo is real. I would have paid anything for that, and nobody was offering it to me. I will say that after reading the interview, I've always thought it was a group of cineaste for the love film, but I guess I was wrong. I now look at mubi.com similar to others I know who have went onto do online streaming content and that is creators looking towards a popular niche and if you have the brains to create the technology and can get the page views and people willing to pay for the content, they can do it and hope that there is a major company that will buy them out. But perhaps there are changes in store, especially with Criterion now putting their films on Hulu.com (and it's already on netflix streaming) that prompted the name change. Noticed Criterion still has "theauteurs" on their main site but wondering if the site will still be continue to be used as their main source for social forums. But as we on this thread are pretty much biased towards the physical product for Criterion releases, I would assume that there is a growing number of cinema fans who prefer watching these films via online streaming. |

Yeah, the PT Anderson thing got me excited for a second too. I think MUBI doesn't stand for anything and they just made up the name because it sounds like the word "movie".

Just pre-ordered the two August titles from Criterion's site with the 10BACK code.
Came to 57.53, which is 28.77 a movie. Not that bad, considering most Amazon pre-orders are at 35.99, plus it will keep adding more and more points for a gift card. |

Most Amazon pre-orders can be had for 26.99 or 27.99 as soon as they go up (1 week after being announced.)

I wouldn't think they have lost the rights since this title isn't OOP, but I have no idea. would love to get confirmation that Criterion is at least working on the blu release of this. ![]() |
