I'll be buying:

Red River- I am thrilled that Howard Hawks is getting the Criterion blu-ray treatment.

Ace in the Hole- I own the Criterion DVD, but I will definitely upgrade.

Overlord- This will be my blind buy; the trailer for it looks 1970's raw and I love it!

I may also blind buy Like Someone in Love.

Great lineup though. Red River, and Ace in the Hole will be mine.

I am aware. As is eXistenz, but his earlier works have been greatly neglected. I'm surprised someone like Scream Factory hasn't tried to pick up Shivers or Rabid.

Is there any chance whatsoever Criterion could get the right(s) to do the first release of Budapest Hotel later this year, or will we be waiting four years for that?

I wouldn't go that far - I'd say it's possible but definitely not likely. It's a different distributor than Moonrise Kingdom, for one, so at the very least we cannot use that as the barometer of whether it'll be released or not.

If it was it'd possibly need to be in a Benjamin Button scenario where Criterion is very minimally involved in production, which in the long run is not optimal.

Budapest Hotel has been very successful at the Berlin film festival and won the Silver Bear. Fox Searchlight is not going to let Criterion take their money away. It will be in the collection someday, that's a positive. But not until it's been out for a few years.

Does anyone know if The Thief of Bagdad (the 1940 one) scheduled to come to BD anytime soon?
Just realised the DVD is 10 years old Thats another film I think I'd like to upgrade to BD!
