Might be time to make a new movie-ordering friend who has a B&N membership and lives in a bigger city...hint hint.

If the newest releases are confirmed, I might have to take you up on that one. possibly 4 of those could get bought.

I actually find it easier to immerse myself in a story if I'm watching a subtitled foreign film. The unfamiliar language somehow transports me into a fictional world with greater effectiveness.

I tend to watch all of my Blu-rays, English or foreign, with subtitles unless I'm watching a film that I've seen multiple times (my James Bond movies, etc.), providing that subtitles are available. I don't like to miss dialogue.

I'm getting myself geared up to watch the upcoming Tess Blu-ray by watching my newly-purchased Scream Factory Blu-ray of Cat People (1982).

Actually, that probably makes no sense, because Cat People will not prepare me for Tess in any way whatsoever, aside from the fact that Nastassja Kinski stars in both films. So, I guess that I just wanted to see another Nastassja Kinski movie a couple weeks before Tess.

Cat People is one of those "so bad that it's oh-so-good" 1980s movies that I'm bound to by the sheer force of nostalgia. I know that the Blu-ray presentation is supposed to be flawed by DNR and such, and the cover art for the Scream Factory disc is godawful, but I... just... couldn't... stay... away.

I am a fan of digipaks. Was at a store today that had some releases out early. Tess, Foreign Correspondent, Jules and Jim & Fantastic Mr. Fox are some nice thick-ass digipak cases!

Yes, the days of plastic Criterion cases will be a thing of the past.
In this case it seems The Life Aquatic will be released in standard case since it is listed in amazon as only having 1 disc (they will probably keep in circulation their previous dvd since they don't sell it directly).

The only digipacks for may will be Ace in the Hole and Red River which is oddly listed as having 4 discs, any idea on this?

There were 2 versions of The Life Aquatic though right? a 2 disc version and a 1 Disc version. I snatched up the 1 disc version from Amazon for a few bucks last year but if they're doing both the DVD/BD, it'll be a 3 disc Digipack most likely.

Yes i think they were 2 versions, but i was thinking that if the info on amazon is correct they may not do a dual format of this and maybe fit all the 2 disc extras in 1 blu like they usually do.

I sure hope that it comes out in the standard amaray plastic case, but seeing on Criterion.com, that they list it as 2 DVDs, I highly doubt it will be anything but a digipack.

I already have Tess and Jules & Jim pre-ordered for far cheaper prices. This particular store has mostly high-ass prices for BDs. I did however pick up Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion there today.

I demand you watch Godzilla movies subtitled.

Are there any other Kurosawa Criterion releases with an analysis as extensive as Seven Samurai?
1. Read the review, Dr. Svet gives a detailed outline
2. It's the same scan so probably very similar
3. Nope

That's par for the course, at least the few I've bought-Night of the Comet, Lifeforce, and From Beyond all have atrocious artwork but have reversible cover art that replicate the original 1 sheet posters if you like that better. Like you mention though, there is something strangely magnetic about those awful covers.

Very true.

Another month and nothing of interest for me from Criterion.

Yeah, the slipcover is garbage, but the reverse cover artwork has the beautiful original teaser poster. Much better than the theatrical poster used on the DVD release.

If they do like Wild Side did, it will be 2 cuts with no seamless branching. So you can guess indeed 1 disc per cut, plus extras spread all over the discs.

I understood the BD release will not be a DF. So that keeps us with a DVD-only release and a BD-only release. So no DF at all.
