Checking iMDB, it was the American cut. The European version had 17 extra minutes, all Bellucci's boobs

Is there someplace non-obvious on their site where you can find a list of upcoming acquisitions? I can see a list of what they've recently added, but not what's coming down the road. Or do they only mention this kind of thing on Facebook or somesuch?

Anyway, I have a couple of movies to go watch, now that Wifey is done watching Olympics coverage for the night.

It's not everything they're going to add, but FeekFliks covers a lot of things they're adding within the next 28 days.

Two films I noticed were edited when watching them on Netflix Instant were The Human Centipede 2 (the masturbation and anal rape scenes removed) and Holy Motors (erection scene blurred).

I noticed some people in here praising The Turin Horse and I was wondering if there's much music in it? or whether it's mainly just wind and the noises people generally make?
I'm very interested in seeing it but if I'm being honest, films that are deliberately paced to this sort of extent are hard to keep my interest if they're very short on plot. It has stunning cinematography from what I've seen and read which is a big plus but does it contain much of a score to go with the visuals?

On TCM this morning, they had a little segment on 'The Red Shoes' (1948). It looked like it would be really good. So I read the review on here and some anecdotes about it and I now want to get this Blu. I also want to get 'Black Narcissus'. Sounds interesting as well and both were made by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. I have to admit I hadn't heard of these two guys before but now that I have I will definitely be looking into them. Just like David Lean and Noel Coward.

As I've said before, Powell and Pressburger are my favourite discovery since starting my Criterion collection. Both of those are tremendous movies (and fantastic transfers, of course) but The Life and Death of Col Blimp is actually my favourite!

P&P titles are good blind buys if you're into classic British cinema. The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus are wonderful and look terrific.

Thanks guys! I will definitely get these as soon as I can. Deborah Kerr is always wonderful. I wondered, is Moira Shearer any relation to Norma?

it has a repetitive musical score, Michael Phillips in his review of the film describes it as a misstep.

Two great films. I'll also recommend The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp. And it's not on Blu-ray, but A Matter of Life and Death aka Stairway to Heaven is another fantastic film of theirs.

Ah, that makes sense (of a sort). Harvey Scissorhands strikes again. Anyway, I've seen films on Netflix that have considerably more in the way of sex scenes than anything I'd seen in Malèna, so it's certainly not conservativeness on the part of Netflix.

Speaking of Tornatore films, does anyone know if there a region-free Blu-ray with English subtitles of the complete version of Cinema Paradiso. I can pick up the Miramax BD really (really) cheap, but it's the shorter American release version.

I confess that I'm not especially fond of The Red Shoes, because ballet bores the crap out of me. But it's absolutely gorgeous to look at, and so is Black Narcissus. Jack Cardiff was one hell of a cinematographer.

Any film by Powell & Pressburger, or even Powell alone, is worth seeing.

I rather save a certain amount and get as many as I can in the sale
As I mentioned I'm an international customer, so rather order more at once than less several times because of the delivery cost...

What do you think, these new dual format editions, like breathless etc... will be 20 or more at a 50% sale?

FYI I'm also inspired to finally see Red Shoes, mostly because of Martin Scorsese's great passion for the film. It's actually on Turner Classics this Saturday night. I'm going to watch it then and see if I want the blu-ray, never having seen it before. I know the picture quality won't be as good on television and probably not in HD (TCM usually isn't), but it should provide a good chance to finally see the film. I did this for Battle of Algiers a few weeks ago, which I thought was an incredible film and have added to my list to purchase.

My partner and I just watched my Blu-ray of 'Ministry of Fear'. LOVED it. Great movie. Ray Milland is excellent. Just bought 'The Uninvited' on Blu off ebay and can't wait to see it.

I really wish Criterion could release 'The Lost Weekend' on Blu. Never seen that either.

There's a minimalist score. Like Philip Glass, only good.
