I too have to decide. Probably looking at getting 5. May use their recent best prices on Amazon to get the best values.

Here's my current Criterion wish list (leaving off Blue since it has the better edition coming later). All will be $20 except for IAMMMMW:
The 39 Steps
Fantastic Mr Fox
Following
Foreign Correspondent
Frances Ha
Godzilla
The Great Dictator
Hunger
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
The Killing
The Lady Vanishes
Lord of the Flies
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Safety Last!
Shallow Grave
Tiny Furniture

I wouldn't dismiss The Wages of Fear based on its first 40-60 minutes, i think it actually help to have all that character development in order to justify what will happen on the second part of the movie.

I don't think it would have the same impact in me if it would have just went directly to the suspenseful parts, they could have it trimmed a little maybe, but i don't think it was bad at all.

About Bottle Rocket, i am a very huge fan of Wes Anderson but i still feel that and Darjeeling Limited are his lesser films, although i still like them.

Throne of Blood
Wages of Fear
The Lady Vanishes (Definite)
Bottle Rocket
Rififi (80% Definite)
Sweet Smell of Success

DVD
Stray Dog
The Pornographers

The Lady Vanishes will complete my CC Hitch collection. Bottle Rocket will give me every Anderson (except Mr Fox) and a few Kurosawa's that I don't have in my collection.

With only 1 100% sure fire buy, it leaves a lot of possibilities. Thoughts?
Are all of those blind buy possibilities?

I would highly recommend Sweet Smell of Success, but i was not a fan of Naked Lunch, but Cronenberg tends to be hit or miss with me, but i still don't think that is a very safe blind buy.

I'm buying a Criterion shirt and a replacement case for 400 Blows!

Will also get Sweetie. Shirt and case are to get the free shipping.

EDIT: Hmmmm. maybe 3 Women...oh crap, the circle of doubt has started.

In my opinion, The Wages of Fear could be dropped. That may shock some of you but I grabbed it based on rave reviews in here and it's absolutely true that the trucking journey is very suspenseful and well made. However there's the matter of the first 40-60 minutes (can't remember how long) before they leave on the trip which is frankly boring. There are other moments too where the film isn't so hot.

I personally think it gets a little too much praise considering how uneven the movie is. The suspense has help up well, the first act hasn't, though it is well shot.
I couldn't disagree more. Mario, Luigi, Bimba and Jo don't get in the trucks until the 1 hour mark of the film. I have no issues with the ennui established in that first hour. It's the sense of desperation and hopelessness that drives these men to take the near-impossible job.

I've seen the film 8-10 times and try to watch it every year when it's really hot. I enjoy how slowly it begins but it does begin to pick-up steam as early
[Show spoiler]as when Jo calls Luigi's bluff at the cafe.

Terrific film. An essential, imo.

My list looks something like this at the moment...

blue is...
royal tenenbaums
modern times
ministry of fear
nashville
world cinema
king of the hill
vampyr
Beastie Boys Video Anthology
I am Curious

Just added I am Curious yesterday... May or may not get Nashville, just really not one that's calling out to me, but maybe the 50% is the time to get it. Bottle Rocket is also one that pops on and off the list.

I keep thinking about that, but some seem like the may not happen... which is why I'm thinking of Vampyr & I am Curious. I'd love a blu release of both, but not sure it'll happen.

Thanks for the suggestion on Bottle Rocket, I was thining of adding it as blind buy, but may hold off now. It and Darjeeling Limited are the only ones I haven't seen.

I'm going to buy the Criterion DVDs of Pickup on South Street and Blast of Silence. These be upgraded at some point, but I'm tired of waiting. I saw Blast of Silence a few years back, and it's really something else.

I'm pretty content when it comes to my current Criterion Blu-ray collection, but I hear Design for Living and I Married a Witch calling my name.

Watched I Married a Witch for the first time the other night, my wife bought it for me as a Valentine's Day present. I was very pleased with the film, it was one I knew nothing about and had added based on the description. It was such a fun movie, and it was nice that the wife liked it as well. I'm slowly turning her on to more and more classic and non-blockbuster films. Not that there is anything wrong with those, I love Armageddon as much as the next guy, but I love my Art House too.

And I'm sure that as soon as I buy these DVDs today, there will be an upgrade announcement next month!

Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm looking forward to delving into some older films again later this week. I rented The Spectacular Now from a Redbox booth this weekend, and I was so impressed with the film, which now has a place in my top five of 2013, that I decided to watch my Blu-ray of Say Anything... immediately after. Last night, I revisited Ghostbusters out of respect for Harold Ramis.

I'm going to pick up Tess today from Barnes & Noble, since I like buying the digipaks in person, but it's a long movie, and I probably won't watch it until this weekend. I'll probably end up buying and watching Gravity tonight, although I know that nothing will live up to my experience of seeing it at the theater a few months ago.

Glad I could help with the recommendation. I feel so cool now that I've seen something and suggested it to The Great Owl! But seriously, I think you will really enjoy the film. I really thought that Susan Hayward would steal the film, or be the main one I focused on, but really she played second fiddle to Veronica Lake, but it was Veronica all the way! Let me know what you think once you've watched the movie.
