I just watched Wild Strawberries for the first time.

It's one of those life-changing movies where you end up reexamining your own life in the process of seeing Isak examining his.

It's one of those films that you need to experience at some point in your life. Also, nothing that anyone says will give you the pleasure of experiencing it firsthand.

See it!

My favorite Louis Malle film, by far, is Elevator to the Gallows, and it is another title that is screaming for an upgrade, mostly because of the Miles Davis score.
Wow, I didn't realize Miles Davis did the score to that film. I think Elevator to the Gallows needs to be upgraded for sure.

It would be a fantasy but imagine if Criterion decides to upgrade like 20 titles in some upcoming month of releases. Man, I'd prob. pass out if that happened.

so I'll have my chance to see The Great Beauty this Saturday as they brought it back to play at one of the main art and classic film theaters here in Chicago.

so, those of you who have seen it... no spoilers, please, but did you like it?

I don't know if many people have seen Murmur of the Heart. The DVD transfer is solid. Here is a brief and completely spoiler free review I wrote for another site:

"Somewhat odd, yet endearing coming of age story about a teenage boy and the emotional bond shared between the boy and his mother. Malle's gentle handling of delicate thematic material and taut pacing in the film's final hour more than make up for the fact that the first half narrative, while never dull, does meander a bit. Recommended!"

I said 'recommended' then. Now I'm saying 'highly recommended.' I decided to pick up Lacombe, Lucien from the libary today. I feel pretty strongly that I am going to really like it!
I need to see Murmur of the Heart still! I'm a big fan of Malle and somehow I've still have not seen some of his essential movies.

I'm just guessing here, but maybe if you bought enough to get the free shipping it comes USPS and if you pay for shipping it's UPS?

I have yet to be let down by Bergman, but Wild Strawberries is one of my favorites!

that's because he has so many "essential" movies! check out RT for the reviews on Atlantic City.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/atlantic_city/

even that one has impressive marks and that's maybe the 7th or 8th title that people want to tell you about.

How is it this film isn't in the Criterion Collection!?

I am officially a Malle Maniac.

Let's form a new club.

Finally got to pick up The Seventh Seal and Blue Is the Warmest Color tonight. I'm very excited to see them both, so here's hoping they meet my expectations.

Go see it, even if it will be released in a few weeks, i would recommend to see it on the big screen since the cinematography is amazing, also the soundtrack is great.

Any chance Criterion has something like this lined up: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Werner-Herzo...=werner+herzog

Or safe to pick the set up from BFI? It has Burden of Dreams as a bonus feature but no My Best Fiend. I was almost ready to sell off my box set before I read that. I figure Criterion would have a better package on this one...

My two orders with free shipping are coming one via USPS and another via UPS, so my only guess is that it depends on the size of your order since the one coming via UPS is much bigger order.

It's not particularly great, but if you are inclined to see it (like I was), the big screen is the way to go. At the very least, it is very pretty looking.

The Nosferatu announcement from Scream Factory is the only word so far. I pre-ordered the BFI box but I'm holding on to my two Herzog boxes as I don't expect that the Anchor Bay commentaries with Herzog/Norman Hill will be included on the BFI set. Maybe though.

Also yeah, there are a few titles missing from the BFI set.

I'd been asking Criterion for years to get the rights to Herzog's films. Disappointed Criterion wasn't able to acquire them, but just happy they're finally coming to Blu. Hopefully Shout will do them justice!
