Those are all great, hope you enjoy them!

Yojimbo is one of my favorite films to show to film-illiterate friends, they are always blown away by it.

I heard it's one of his best, so I'm looking forward to it.

Seven Samurai is one of my all-time favorite films. It astounds me that I can use a three and a half hour, black-and-white, foreign film from 50+ years ago to introduce people to the world of international cinema...and invariably they love it! It's a real enigma of a film in that regard. Also, my circle of friends are primarily of the local stage theater community, so I also will use Throne of Blood (Kurosawa's take on Shakespeare's MacBeth) as a door opener. The ending of Throne of Blood still makes my jaw drop...and the spirit scenes are incredibly eerie.

I have had Seven Samurai for almost a year now and still yet to watch it. I hope to change that in the month of March.

Legit question: Why are people buying this barebones release of Blue is the Warmest Color when the film is on Netflix and a better release is on the way?

Well, you know, not everyone subscribes to Netflix.

But even if you paid the 8 dollars for 1 month of Netflix just to watch Blue, that's still like a third of the price?

Am I missing something here? I feel like everyone is saying they'll resell the film when the new release comes around but who would want it?

Once again I agree. Rather than falling in love with her I just resented how she manipulated the men and how they allowed her to. She wore out her welcome with me very quickly and I kept thinking "She's just not worth the aggravation."

Not everyone wants to bother with Netflix at all. Look in the "Blu-ray versus streaming" thread, and there's any number of people who think Blu-ray is vastly superior to streaming sucks and that streaming sucks.

Who would want it are the people who don't care about the extras, and feel they can get it at a used price.

I made a case for Jules and Jim in my User Review, but I can understand how many viewers would be turned off by the film. The fluid cinematography of the movie keeps me engaged throughout, and that's probably the biggest reason why I'm in love with the film.

I'm going to see a 35mm theatrical showing of Seven Samurai on Tuesday night, and I cannot wait.

First, however...

I've got to get through this Blu-ray of D.W. Griffith's Intolerance. I watched another half hour of the movie last night, and went to sleep, so I'll be finishing it later today. The set pieces in this movie are amazing, but I just cannot get into the concept as a whole. I'm trying to find an angle to get interested, but it's just not happening. I keep wanting to put the movie on mute, and play Van Halen's "And the Cradle Will Rock" over and over again as a substitute score. Maybe that will help. I usually fall head over heels for silent cinema of the early decades, but the constant shifting of stories in this one leaves me cold.

I'm a little disappointed in Criterions lack of Fassbender. I remember a year or so ago everyone was getting excited about their coming output of his titles and so far all we've got is an eclipse set of films that were already available on DVD. We need more Rainer!

Agreed about Fassbinder. Not enough of his films on blu (at least English friendly ones)

Short of a Zaitoichi-style massive box I don't think there's much chance at all of any more being done by Criterion.

People like the film. What more is there to say? lol

When I saw it at the theater this past November, I was blown away. Watching it again the other night, I was blown away once again. It seems to be one of those titles that I will revisit often.

The price point was incredibly ideal during the flash sale. Plus, there has been some speculation that the special edition might only be the rumored extended cut.

At least, the BRD trilogy... Even though I would love to have Petra Von Kant as a standalone release. And, of course, Fox and His Friends. With releases like that, they could include other "minor" films in the package.

Just got Fantastic Fox and On the Waterfront in the mail from the Flash Sale. I shouldn't be complaining since I got them for a good price, but I'm not a huge fan of the way they just throw in the booklet with the digipack packaging. Beggars can't be choosers though I guess. Great films regardless.

Not that it is a deal breaker or anything but the booklets for all 6 BDs I received have two cuts in the right hand side of them from the plastic poking through on the side that holds the discs in. You would think that they could do something to remedy this since these discs aren't cheap and the people who collect these things tend to be picky.

Also I just had Tess delivered from netflix to give it a try out before I make a purchase.
