A friend of mine today told me that this film was simply amazing and he hadn't seen anything like it before. He also said it goes beyond sex. I can't wait to see if he's right.
Damn JW! 110 person waiting list, wowza for that buy one month of Netflix streaming and just watch it on your computer and cancel it lol

I would have to say my ranking is:

The Lady Vanishes
The 39 Steps
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Foreign Correspondent

What an interesting trip to school today! I found out our library has a media room with tons of criterion dvd releases of movies I have never seen before (and probably would have no other access to unless I was to buy them on blu). Picked up The 39 Steps and Battle of Algiers.

That will give me something to do while the wife is gone this weekend for sure!

Oh, don't you worry, JM! I HAVE PATIENCE! I will wait until I receive my copy and when that night comes when I see this film, it will have been an interesting night! Hopefully I will like this film, like so many others have! But nothing is certain, that is certain! I don't do Netflix and I DO NOT watch movies on my computer. That is my golden rule. As long as I have a 48 inch HDTV with an old JBL surround sound system, I will NEVER watch a feature length film on my tiny 15 inch laptop.

I never owned the first release of NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. Was there a booklet with the first pressing? If so, will it come with this new pressing on 4/8?

There is a booklet with previous edition, no one is sure what is up with that re-release, but since it never was announced my guess is there should be no difference.

My order has been delayed quit a bit seeing as how I got a shipping confirmation early in the day of the sale. I am pretty sure it was because it took time putting the ticket in mine

I hope so, it would be nice to see one person on here to win the golden ticket.

My guess would be that their repackaging it since The 400 Blows is also getting a re-release. I also think they want to re-label them as dual format. That's just my guess.

Is there any chance of The Man Who Fell to Earth being re-released in dual format? If not then does anyone know of a comparison between the Criterion and the UK Blu-ray? Thanks

Not likely at this point. CC had it licensed from Anchor Bay. All the other Anchor Bay titles are currently OOP.

I know Criterion likes Terry Zwigoff and Daniel Clowes, so is there any chance of Criterion ever releasing GHOST WORLD? I think MGM owns the rights, so I am sure they are willing to sell since a lot of third party companies are releasing their movies lately.

I emailed Criterion months ago about this and never got a response.

I'd love to see a Criterion release of Ghost World, as well. Seemed like it'd be fitting.

Hope this is on topic enough, I tried out Hulu Plus and decided to take it on for a month.... Do the CC titles update on there often or ever or are the films on there now what you can expect month after month?

Thanks!

Received my haul from Criterion yesterday. Like everyone else, no Golden Ticket...

Tess
Solaris
Stagecoach
The Battle of Algiers
The Darjeeling Limited
Z dvd
Shoot the Piano Player dvd
t-shirt

Now what to watch first... if only I didn't have a stack of other Criterion releases at home to catch up on still! The neverending battle...

Thanks. Just read the review of the UK Blu-ray on this site, which says it is an "excellent alternative" to the OOP Criterion. I'm in the UK too so I can get it shipped for £7.99.

Last night's theatrical showing of Seven Samurai at the Midtown Art Cinema here in Atlanta was fun!

The theater used an older 35mm print with loud mono sound from the front speakers, and I enjoyed the old school effect, print scratches and all.

Interestingly, this particular subtitle translation of Seven Samurai featured quite a few expletives that I've never seen in the newer translations on the Criterion DVD or Blu-ray editions. It was surreal and amusing to see the f-word appear in the subtitles several times (mostly from Mifune's Kikuchiyo).

I enjoyed the experience of seeing Seven Samurai with a big audience, because I've always watched it alone at home in the past. My two friends who were originally going to meet me there ended up canceling earlier yesterday, because they did not want to make the drive into town, but they really missed out. The comedic high notes of older movies like this come across so well when viewed with an audience.

As always when I'm watching this movie, I marveled at how some of the later action scenes were created before the days of digital effects, blue screen, etc.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the 35mm showing of Breathless next Tuesday night.

An offline friend has expressed interest in seeing the digital showing of 8 1/2 at this theater in a few weeks, so I might make it to that showing as well.

Incidentally, I saw a couple of big posters advertising Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin, so I look forward to visiting Midtown Art Cinema to see this film when it shows up. I'm almost finished reading the Michel Faber novel.
