Best guess is that the upcoming re-release of NIGH OF THE HUNTER is dropping the digipak and will be in a 2-disc plasic scanavo case (which didn't exist when Criterion release NOTH.)

As for the golden tickets, here are some photos that a winner posted on Criterion's Facebook page:

I've never seen Rififi but I've heard great things about the movie. Is it worth a blind buy? What's the replay value, if any?

Great movie, lower replay value IMO. Not the best special features. I do think it is worth the deal to me though.

Quite often the special features are what eventually give the nod to a disc when I have to make tough choices. For example, last flash sale I went with The Night of the Hunter since it had a documentary far longer than the feature itself in addition to the other special features. It was neck and neck with Stagecoach for the win. There were some others that I wanted more for the feature but bang for the buck won out.

I haven't seen it, but I haven't bought it myself because the reaction seemed more mixed to it than most Criterion titles.

It was a good movie but I still cannot say its one I would watch more than once. It's just not realistic enough for me. I like real locations instead of elaborate set pieces, props and miniatures. I did like the fact that audio dubbing wasn't used so much in that era (as opposed to the 1960s and 70s), but still, it was before method acting and the school of Elia Kazan and such. I gravitate toward newer films in general. Call me crazy but thats just me.

Absolutely AMAZING film. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

It basically spawned a whole different style and generation of filmmaking. It modernized cinema and what you see today.

There's no denying how philosophically ground the film is and it asks such simple every day questions that are so difficult to answer, such as the meaning of life.

I personally think it's difficult to give one specific explanation for the film, but after one viewing, I think its purpose is to explore how extremely difficult, ambiguous, and convoluted life truly is and can be.

I feel similarly about it. I was very much intrigued by the film and am certainly glad to give it a place in my collection. I find SOLARIS to be the cinematic equivalent in the exploration of emotional evolution that 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is to intellectual evolution.

Yes, yes and yes. The image seems excessively grainy for some reason though. Obviously retaining film grain is important but the grain is really quite heavy and pulsates in a manner that's distracting. Considering how stunning the transfer is otherwise, I'd like to know of that's actually how it looks before beif transferred to blu-ray or if something went a bit wrong, spiking it somehow.

I watched Thief today. I'll be editing my top 100 list very soon. Absolutely everything I look forward to in a movie. I wish Mann directed more of his films with this much style.

The transfer was absolutely flawless.

Yes to both of these! Seconds is a real gem, especially if you've seen and are into John Frankenheimers other films from the 60's.
And Riffifi is very well crafted and highly entertaining, the replay value for me has been quite good. Actually just placed my order for it a couple of hours ago and added The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre and The Professionals for free shipping.
These combined with my flash sale purchases should make for a good week of movie watching

I read the David Ely book in the 60's and later saw a heavily-edited TV version of the Frankenheimer film in the early 70's and didn't care for the film very much at that time. Watching the un-cut DVD release later changed my opinion of the film and increased my appreciation for it. On that basis I can recommend the film but can't speak of the Criterion blu-ray as I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

+1 for Seconds. Probably the best new film to me of the 370+ that I watched last year.
