I have a list, a long list, of Criterions I wish to own. I want to be able to compare releases from other distributors such as MOC etc as well as price check.

I have done a quick test with The Ballad of Narayama, a Criterion & MOC release yet I only got details for the Criterion. I have the setting on "all countries" so I am a little lost as to why MOC did not show in the results.

Any suggestions as to how I can do a search to bring up all worldwide releases of a film ?

I google the film title and add dvdbeaver at end so 'Amaracord dvdbeaver', they compare stills and sound etc, also blurry.com has great reviews.

I have DVDs for Rushmore and RT... the soundtrack for Rushmore is particularly good. It is on my list of DVDs to revisit. For whatever reason, the other 2 films that are screaming to be rewatched right now are Control and 24 Hour Party People... so 3 films where music plays a big role or is just plain front and center. My tastes have evolved to the point where I don't see much rewatchability in much of my DVD collection, so its nice for one or two to jump out at me once in a while.

I just recently watched all my Hitchcock's that I purchased and had never seen, as well as stuff like Twelve O'Clock High, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Maltese Falcon, An Affair to Remember, and many more, and loved them all. Now to get to my point...I'm ready to blind buy yet again, but I need feedback on some of these since I know little of them. What I'm looking at are;

I have only seen 8 1/2 and How Green Was My Valley but I suggest buying both.

8 1/2 isn't as accessible though.

the safest blind buy out of all of them is probably The Best Years of Our Lives. ... at least based on the limited info I have on what you have bought and what you have enjoyed. in a similar vein to what you have seen and enjoyed, I also like Wild River, Billy Wilder's The Apartment and you should probably also jump on Touch of Evil and Double Indemnity when those come out. Great classic stuff!

you may or may not know about foxconnect.com, but they do 50% off flash sales frequently and a few times a year (I believe) it is off their entire selection. you can make some pretty sick scores on classic films. I added 4 titles for like $30. Can't wait for their next sale.

I'm in Canada though, so I'm pretty sure the savings would necessarily apply to me by the time I pay for shipping etc. But thanks for the info!

I've never been as passionate about Breathless as some are (I've tried!), but 8 1/2 and Rififi are among my favorite films of all time. The Fellini takes an open mind and an awareness of the filmmaking, but it is absolutely amazing. Rififi is more accessible as popular entertainment and includes maybe the most realistic and nail-biting robbery scene ever shot.

How Green Was My Valley is sentimental Hollywood classic but so beautifully shot (Gregg Toland), and Best Years of My Life is so emotionally shattering when you consider when it was released and what the audience's reaction must have been.

If you liked the above Humphrey Bogart movies, then you might enjoy Breathless. Breathless takes cues from American film noir, but it also pays obvious homages to Bogart, whom Belmondo's character directly imitates in mannerisms and style.

Rififi and Breathless both have my highest recommendations, although your entire list is solid.
