It's not just A Hard Day's Night. They're doing that with Judex as well, which will likely NOT sell as many copies in comparison.

It looks like the DVD-only releases are more "budget" releases, since the combo pack of AHDN is 1 Blu-Ray and 2 DVDs, where the DVD-only release is just 1 disc.

They should have been doing this for years. I would be interested in Judex if I can buy the DVD for around $10.
Blu ray set will cost way too much for me though.
Hope Netflix gets copies for rental

If the UK version is blurry, the Criterion release should be a good upgrade!

Hearts and Minds is an upgrade that looks to most definitely be worth it.
All that Heaven Allows most definitely does not IMO
the difference between one of these classic color films on DVD versus Blu-ray is like night and day... the DVD for this film, if RT is referring to the previous Criterion release, was released 13 years ago... I have no idea what the PQ is on that disc, but I'd be willing to bet that this will be a MAJOR improvement..

Really solid month, ESP the BLU upgrades LONG overdue :-) as for Douglas Sirk more surprised they didn't hold off on this release until fall/winter and release Written on the Wind for June. I will take them as they come. :-)

All titles are worth owning. :-)

I don't get when people say "they are good with their DVD". This is a bluray forum. Why wouldn't you want to upgrade for better quality overall?

And if you're basing it solely on extra content, then fair enough. I'm personally looking forward to upgrading my copy of All That Heaven Allows, because for me, the PQ and AQ is more of a reason to upgrade than any new extras that may or may not be included. I think I can speak for plenty of people on these forums that the higher PQ is the main reason for upgrading from DVD to Blu-Ray, which is what you couldn't understand, based on the post of yours I had initially quoted.

I've been doing the same thing. It makes it that much easier on my wallet once July and November roll around...

A few week's ago I bought an advertised second hand copy of Lumet's 12 Angry Men and Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes, I paid around £16 for each of them, and they were brand new and sealed. Sometimes it pays to wait, but even this practice is fast disappearing. Very rarely I buy brand new or pre-order Criterion titles, the last two Criterion's I bought which were brand new were Fincher's The Game and Mann's Thief (which I pre-ordered) I always pre-order from DVDWorldUSA since, most of the time, their new releases are shipped out two weeks before the discs are officially released.
I too buy what catches my eye. I am from the UK and know someone there that buys a lot from various sources. I need to look at DVDWorldUSA, see if they are good to ship to Canada

Very happy to upgrade All That Heaven Allows (I was Sirk-obsessive for several years) and L'Eclisse, will stick with my Judex and Hearts and Minds DVDs.

Any chance that Picnic will include the theatrical cut? Or are we stuck with the director's cut only on BD?

Thanks for the help. I remembered the site later, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

A Brief History of Time and The Hidden Fortress arrived just now and I'm not the happiest camper with the packaging (there are a couple of chips / marks).

L'Eclisse AND Picnic at Hanging Rock?!

The latter really deserves the blu treatment. One of the most visually stunning films I've ever seen.
