I know some people have mixed feelings about this JJ title getting the blu treatment over other more popular selections but its always been the most touching film he has done, IMO, and I couldn't be happier its coming soon.

B&N need to divulge when they are having the next sale cause I don't want to hold out until August on this title if it ends up being that late into the summer.

This looks interesting. Know anything about "Two In The Wave," CG? Here's a trailer for it.

I didn't know about this film, but I know Godard's falling out with him was mainly from Truffaut's films. Godard thought the directors from the Cahiers du cinema mainly him and Truffaut had a view of changing cinema and that Truffaut's films wasn't what he/they invisioned.

Thanks for the link. I hope this gets a dvd release.

As long as Criterion keep up the stellar work, I'll be happy to know they're releasing BDs even when I'm not personally interested in a title.

People seem to have mixed feelings about Jarmusch in general. I love Mystery Train, but I gave a copy to a friend who I really thought would dig it, and he said he found it boring.

For what it's worth, I made it through Walkabout last night (not that I have a problem watching it, as it's excellent.....but I was TIRED!)

So tonight it's time for "Ride With The Devil" which I must admit, I have yet to see

I had never seen "Ride With The Devil" either before this blu-ray release, Beta, and I must say that I was quite impressed with it. I would like to hear from anyone that has seen the original cut compared to this new Ang Lee director's cut.

Did you think "Walkabout" was a little slow in places? I did.

Not at all. For the story being told, I felt the pacing of "Walkabout" was just right. I would've actually preferred an "open" ending, though, without any type of closure as to what happened after the fact.

I agree with you about the ending. Visually speaking it had very good eye-candy, in more ways than one. lol I felt there was a few times in the desert that the pace was slow and it appeared to drag. On the other hand, given the location and what they were going through, that same point could also be used in a positive manner both physically and mentally. A fine line I suppose.

Exactly. I mean... how fast-paced do you think life would be for you if you were wandering through the desert without any other human life in sight? The hours are not gonna feel like they're flying by, I'm sure. The day is gonna be long and mundane. So, definitely long static camera shots or slow, sweeping shots are gonna capture that feeling perfectly... staying focused on objects for a bit longer than usual.

Forgive me if this was covered, but will the BD release for THE LEOPARD contain the US 161 Minute English Language Version? (was only wondering if I should hold onto my DVD set for this cut)

I never watch the US version myself, but it isn't very clear even on Criterion's site if it is included.

I've read that both films will be included on the Blu-ray.

I actually enjoyed the film and felt the pacing was fine. The only thing that I felt took me away from the movie was the weather balloon scene and the kids with the statues (which I didn't care for but I understand the context of why it was used in the film).

But did you guys catch the special feature on David Gulpilil? That was pretty interesting.

Didn't care for Ride With the Devil... is this the same director's cut that's been out for years on laserdisc (I believe)? I had a VHS dub of the longer cut, it's the only cut I've seen.

Finally got myself 'The Seventh Seal',

Next week : 'M'

If I had more money, I'd get Stagecoach too, but I have to save it for Seven Samurai/Antichrist/Darjeeling Ltd

According to the press release notes and all, the new cut for Criterion's release was created exclusively for this release by Ang Lee.

I'm pretty sure it will be included because the blu-ray release is a 2-disc set. I can't imagine that they'd release a 2-disc set if it were only going to contain the one version of the film.

Same here in "upstate" New York. Never saw "M" in BB stores and it doesn't even show up on their website, when I do a search. Wound up going to B & N and paying $34.99.

They are stocking "Walkabout", which I'm considering picking up today. It looks like they'll carry "Stagecoach" as well...no surprise there, as it's an old classic western with John Wayne.
