I am not a fan of L'eclisse or Picnic, but I am interested in Judex. Douglas Sirk films make me laugh (the satire is great) all the time.

Well the good thing is that Persona will be released next week. I am definitely not waiting for a sale to purchase this gem of a film.

OK, a month where I've seen NONE of the films, yes, I've even never seen Hard Days Night.

PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK is the only one I'm 100% certain I will pick up, so far. Will need to investigate the rest.

ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS - I've never seen a Sirk movie, but I did recently purchase The Tarnished Angels from the Masters of Cinema line, so I'll see how I enjoy that. Just reading the synopsis, it sounds interesting...

L’ECLISSE - I've also never seen an Antonioni film. I know this is the last of the trilogy, so probably not the best one to start with. If I did want to try an Antonioni film, which should I start with?

HEARTS AND MINDS - I'd watch it, but have no interest in owning it.

JUDEX - Never heard of it, but it sounds really fun. This is quite likely a buy for me.

A HARD DAY’S NIGHT - Not sure. As I said, I've never seen it. It doesn't really appeal, even though I do love The Beatles... Will see if the wife is interested, I guess.

Even though I have only one for sure yes at this point, and one quite likely, it seems like a really solid line-up of titles!

Been looking forwrd to this one for ages but I'm extremely disappointed criterion is not including the film's original theatrical version as an option or at the very least the deleted scenes.

It's stupid at every possible level. People who want the extras will have to buy the combo even if they don't have a BD player. People with BD players don't need the 2 dvd's.
It would make way more sense to release the dvd only edition as a double disc and the combo to include the BD and the movie dvd.

I want all of these. That $20 a week plan Preacher mentioned sounds like a smart plan!

In case anyone skipped over this detail:

Finally PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK. Shame we still don't get the original longer theatrical version, but still good news. Hopefully, THE LAST WAVE isn't too far behind.

JUDEX is really cool. I remember renting a similar film on VHS over 30 years ago called SHADOWMAN that Franju made after JUDEX, but I think that was a movie-condensed version of a tv-miniseries he did. Need to head over to imdb and refresh my memory...

I never picked up the Miramax dvd of A HARD DAY'S NIGHT because didn't they use the mono track to make a fake stereo track which sounded horrible? And the reviews said all of the extras were kind of peripheral stuff. Anyway, I just made do with the old MPI dvd, but I will surely get the Criterion Blu now.

Picnic At Hanging Rock is listed as 107m. The original DVD was listed at 115m. I never bought the original, will the DVD have the 115m cut? I'm not all to familiar with the film.

Also 2 more timing questions. Judex is listed for 93m, region 2 dvd is listed as 103m.

Persona listed at 83m and again, run time is listed 84m in numerous other sites. Will this be censored? Wikipedia had a censorship section about it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I googled the Beatles, and it said AHDN was getting a BD and DVD in June or July. I didn't know if it was gonna be Criterion or apple. But now that I got the news.

The original Criterion DVD was the shorter 107 minute "director's cut" version. That's the exact same one we're getting on Blu, apparently. I do remember there was a release elsewhere that included the original uncut theatrical version along with the cut-down version, but not from Criterion.

They won't announce their July schedule until mid-April. Today was the June announcement...

I do not know about the Picnic transfers which I have difficulty staying awake while watching the film (on two occasions I fell asleep), but I do know that MGM used the uncensored version for their Persona DVD release.

If MGM used the uncensored version, then I am almost certain criterion will use the same transfer minus the horrible cropping of the film. I will let you know next week, it is a first day purchase for me.

I finished Lord of the Flies a little while ago and I honestly didn't like it.

I appreciate the film for nicely capturing how a group of average boys end up divulging into savagery, but the entire thing felt like a chore.

Thanks! Amazon has it listed incorrectly.
