yes, just founded them too.
It seems this is from the Australian release:

and this is from pathe:

They look almost the same.
But i guess the australian Bluray is very hard to find.

There is a copy here but it ships only to Australia! :-(

Actually, this isn't true.

While detail is improved because of the higher resolution scan, the color scheme on the Pathe release is, to say the least, strange. There are parts of the film where the walls of the villas look pinkish, and, as someone who has seen this film so many times projected, I have a very hard time believing that the colors/color saturation are/is in any way accurate.

Very soon -- probably this weekend -- I will post a review of the Italian release, which also uses the 4K restoration as a foundation, but isn't 100% identical to the French release. I am much more willing to accept the Italian release as a substitute, but Criterion's presentation of the film is still exceptionally strong.

In the grand scheme of things, I still believe that the cooler yellows on the Criterion release are a lot more accurate. (This is precisely how Sicily looks in the middle of the summer -- dry and pale, not as lush and vibrant as it is presented in the French release).

well, in these 2 particular screenshots, it seems the pathe one has a wider range of colors and they seem more natural.
It seems to me like in the Criterion there is a light yellow filter or something.

More natural compared to what? Even on the shots you have linked it is pretty obvious that brigtness levels are elevated and as a result small objects are a lot easier to see on the Criterion release.

A type of example you want to see is the very beginning of the film, where the camera zooms around the large villa. On the French release the walls look strangely pinkish. They look different on the Criterion release.

They also look different on the Italian release.

I see. But you are speculating that there is a filter and then assuming that because there is, color saturation is more accurate on the French release.

My feeling is that the cooler colors on the Criterion release are a lot more accurate because this is how Sicily looks during the summer. I could be wrong, but I have seen two Blu-ray releases of the 4K restoration and, to me, they don't look identical.

I would have loved to see the new 4K restoration in Cannes to know exactly how the film looked in the theater, but unfortunately I couldn't.

And just to make this perfectly clear, I purchased the Pathe release and have seen it. I did not like it. Now I also have the Italian release, and this release does not look identical to the Pathe release. There are minor but obvious discrepancies. (We will have a review shortly). So, I am not using screencaptures to judge color saturation.

By the way, i had started a thread about "spring" movies, in the movies section, but maybe i could find here what I'm looking for.
Can anyone suggest Criterion Blurays that show movies held in spring with beautiful spring landscapes etc.?
eg. one that comes in mind, and I think I'll be watching every spring is Howards End.
Maybe Tess fits too? haven't seen it. Or is it more like summer?
Amarcord

[Show spoiler]Not the whole film but it ends with the beginning of Spring.

A fun Criterion association here...

I just finished watching the Blu-ray of Somewhere in Time (1980), and it's just as much of a tear-jerker today as it was when I used to watch it on HBO during the early 1980s when I was a kid.

George Voskovec, who plays the old college professor/author, also played Juror #11 (the European immigrant) in 12 Angry Men and an attorney in The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.

Watched Foreign Correspondent tonight. Always great to revisit a movie you haven't seen in ages and be reminded how freakin' great it is. 2 hrs. completely blew by in a blink. Amazing effects work for the time and some of THE very best performances in the Hitchcock canon. Some very real emotion on display in this one and it is portrayed beautifully. I think I am going to need to make room in my Hitch top 5 for this gem. Excellent A/V quality on this disc as well. Can't wait to check out the bonus features.

Joel McCrea is another of the actors (like Joseph Cotton) I think that get overlooked from that era. A great body of work with some real classics on his filmography. I watched Ride the High Country last night on TCM. Great film but no Blu-ray yet.

I received Hidden Fortress & Brief History via UPS from amazon today. 2 of today's 5 (that I preordered/prime) guaranteed 18th deliveries. 3 no shows. Brief History is crushed, spine is broken and punctured the cover, top of the case is completely missing chunks of plastic. I'm pissed right now. I've yet to deal with amazon. Will Criterion sell me a new art/liner, not the book, but the paper part of the case?

On a side note, with all the 3 disc digi packs lately, I slid these on the shelf and I wish they were my last several make these look not as special due to the size difference.

I too have the Australian release of The Leopard. Worth noting it has the different aspect ratio as well from the CC one, at 2.55:1.

Well, that's one of those interesting questions. The film was shot in Technirama, a process similar to VistaVision with the film running horizontally. It had a negative ratio of 2.55:1, but it wasn't intended to be printed at that ratio. It's supposed to be 2.35:1 for 35mm prints, and 2.21:1 for 70mm "Super Technirama" prints. Criterion used the 70mm ratio.

Just file an A Z claim, if I have any damage I do so and get full refund.

Default Tokyo Story

Yesterday I watched Tokyo Story for the first time. Very moving and true-to-life. I can see where it's the type of film that most people can probably feel a connection to in one way or another. I still need to go through most of the supplements, which will take some time seeing how extensive they are. Love it!

Glad you liked it! It is certainly one of the most powerful things that I've had the pleasure of seeing.
