Nice. I just pre-ordered An Affair to Remember and King of Comedy, then cancelled my pre-order of KoC with Amazon. Both movies together came out to less than the Amazon pre-order price for KoC.

When I visit Blu-ray.com and browse the threads here almost every single day, this is the type of news that I'm always hoping to read.

I cannot wait to upgrade my Insomnia DVD.

Fans of the Christopher Nolan remake will be surprised how much darker this original Norwegian version is. It's an amazing neo-noir, and an amazing low-key film all around.

How much did you find the Kurosawa disc for? I used to have it as part of a large package that was a Fox Lorber Amazon exclusive for Ran, Madadayo and Kurosawa. I sold it, but wanted to get the documentary. Most times I've looked it is around $15 to $20 so I have been waiting to see if I could grab it for a little less.

Just finished the Hidden Fortress. The video quality on this blu was great! Anyone have any idea why the "Throne of Blood" looks bad in comparison? They weren't made that far apart. It was just really scratchy and didn't have that pop that "Hidden Fortress" did.

I just placed an order directly from the Criterion website for...

Persona
The Freshman
The Great Beauty

$31.96 apiece, which is cheaper than what I would be able to purchase these for at Barnes & Noble this month or even on Amazon, and the order qualifies for free shipping.

I do not usually order directly from Criterion except during flash sales, but I'm trying this out as a test to see how Criterion ships these three relatively fragile digipaks. If I'm satisfied with the shipping method and the condition of the digipaks up on arrival, then I'd like to make the Criterion site my go-to place for ordering these Dual Format digipak releases.

At the least, it will be a good way to rack up points on my Criterion account.

I'm making a big leap of faith with The Great Beauty, but the trailers and the description excite me.

For those of you who have ordered the Dual Format digipaks directly from Criterion, are you happy with the results?

Ordered mien from Amazon Beauty and Persona came perfect condition, (America => UK) they aren't as fragile as people think, Persona feels great.

The amazing aspect of that theme is its ability to be so catchy while having such a jarring mixed meter.

My shipment of The Great Beauty plus 3 others is on its way to Canada. Hoping that the digipak arrives in perfect condition. I'll post pics of the goods and packaging once they arrive

You could've had those 3 for $71.97 from Family Video.

Thanks for the heads-up!

There's always a bigger better deal somewhere. I pre-ordered The Swimmer from Family Video a few days ago, but did not think to check their Criterion prices. I feel more assured ordering digipacks from the Criterion site, though, because they've always done a good job with shipping their titles to me. I'll stick with them this time around.

as part of the flash sale, I bought Breathless and Foreign Correspondent - both were in immaculate condition. I believe, like you, that items sent from Criterion may be our best bet if we want packages in perfect condition, although I have seen many on this thread say that their 'direct from Amazon' orders have not presented any problems either.

my David Lean set wasn't in the greatest shape when I bought it from a marketplace vendor recently, so I plan to stay away from smaller sites and market vendors for anything that is cardboard.

in unrelated, but related news... I bought the Studio Canal blu of Pierrot Le Fou yesterday on ebay for $15 plus $2.50 shipping. I inquired about the condition of the package before pulling the trigger; the seller seems to be a collector and verified that he "thinks I will be pleased." great deal, though, on that disc, so that's exciting.
