My Flash Sale order has arrived, unceremoniously dumped on the doorstep

My concern for my first Digipak via post was unwarranted. The Great Beauty has arrived intact though there is an indentation at the top right, on both sides of the box

Whilst I would love a pristine condition box I know that it virtually impossible via mail so I am happy. In a few days I will forget about it.

Another comment on The Great Beauty box, where are people putting the Blue Sticker Seems such a shame to ruin the picture on the box.

I thought there were a few really great scenes. Like Godard’s other films, there is quite a bit of poetry in the images and in the dialogue. Had I been watching it at home, I surely would have listened to parts of the dialogue twice, if not three times, to ponder what they meant to me. I’d buy it on blu-ray if and when it is released. Needs multiple viewings. Not my favorite Godard, but definitely worthwhile.
I haven't watched Alphaville in quite some time, due to lack of BD release. Upon my first viewing, however, I considered it to be my favorite Godard film bar-none. At the time I believe I'd only seen Breathless, Band of Outsiders, and Masculin Feminin... maybe Made in USA too. I've watched much more of his work since, and would certainly love to revisit the film. I've forgotten a good deal of it, despite having re-watched it at least twice since. Hopefully a new transfer comes sooner than later.

Riot in Cell Block 11 Blu-ray REVIEW

Top film and an outstanding 2K restoration from Criterion.

Matthew Bernstein's commentary is also one of the very best I have heard done for a Criterion release in quite some time. I urge you to listen to it in its entirety.

You mean Port of Call New Orleans. As much as I generally like Herzog, his...whatever you want to call it...of Bad Lieutenant manages to be both over-the-top and forgettable at the same time.

It certainly isn't a patch on the actual Bad Lieutenant.

I haven't seen this film in ages but I remember it fondly. It has a Hall of Fame line-up of '50s bad guys in the cast. I miss the days when there were great character actors in just about everything you watched.
Anyway, this will be a sure purchase for me. Thanks for the review.

Thank you, Pro-B! I'm more pumped up about Riot in Cell Block 11 than I have been about any of the 2014 Criterion releases so far.

I've been watching Don Siegel's film noirs (Private Hell 36, The Big Steal, The Lineup) lately, and he is one of the true kings of the genre. This Criterion release will be a perfect addition to my collection.

I just finished watching Harold Lloyd's The Freshman, and am now enjoying the commentary.

The Freshman is a hilarious and heartwarming movie across the board, and it's one of most fast-moving silent films that I've seen to date. Lloyd's comedic timing is impeccable, and it's amazing how much he conveys with his eyes. Jobyna Ralston is a true beauty in every sense, and her presence works wonders in inspiring our sympathy for Lloyd's Speedy.

I may write more later after I've had time to go through more of the extras, but this is one great little Criterion title. I still prefer Safety Last! by a slim margin, but The Freshman is a treasure.

I have a question for you, about your reviews. The review doesn't state something like, "There is no egregious edge enhancenent," which often occurs in your reviews. I have inferred, when you state that, that there is edge enhancement. The implication seems clear to me.

Now, in this particular review, you state something like, "The grain is evenly distributed and well resolved." Does that statement rule out the use of artificial grain?

I could actually imagine Criterion releasing Birdy. I love the Peter Gabriel soundtrack. Most of the instrumentals are carried over from Gabriel's fourth solo album, which is self-titled, but generally known by its working U.S. title, Security. That fourth album is my personal favorite Peter Gabriel release. "Wallflower" and "San Jacinto" are such perfect songs.

Criterion does need some Alan Parker. This brings about the question? Why haven't they done The Wall yet?

Saw both two years ago. Reviews?

Valley Girl- Fun. Terrible, but fun no less.
Fast Times- Is there really anything that needs to be said? I used Goodbye Goodbye in a school project as a tribute. I love the film.
Peggy Sue- Sucked. Hated it.
