I was watching the shorter version and there were issues during the second half of the movie. Jon recommended that I do a firmware update which I am doing now. We'll see if this solves the issue.

Breaking the Waves has arrived and it's gorgeous - amazing package, can't wait to see the new transfer later :-) screencaps were stunning

I feel bad for recommending Family Video the other day. Persona shipped on March 21st and has yet to arrive at my doorstep. I know it said 5-10 days (Today is day #10) but this is ridiculous.

Are Criterion editions from amazon.ca the same releases as in the US (no french text, etc)?

I see Persona is down to $21.63 and I'm tempted...

I ordered the Blu-ray of The Swimmer from Family Video about three weeks ago, because they had the cheapest price. A few days after the release date, Family Video sent me an email saying that they had canceled my order because the item was no longer in stock, and that they had refunded my money. The refund was posted on my account four days later. After I received the cancellation email, I ordered The Swimmer from Barnes & Noble for the same price and received the Blu-ray two days later.

Family Video kindly gave me a credit of two dollars off of my next order from them, but I'll probably never use it. I gave them a shot, and they dropped the ball.

Ordering Persona, The Freshman, and The Great Beauty directly from Criterion was more expensive, but the Blu-rays arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I think that I'll stick with ordering Criterion Blu-rays directly from Criterion unless I buy them in person at a Barnes & Noble location.

The only other time I've ordered from them was purchasing Wilder's The Apartment. I think it arrived on release date.

I live in Québec and the thought of the discs being in French is something that has never even crossed my mind. I have never seen that anywhere.

I've only ordered one film from them, Holy Motors, and I received it a day or two before release. Seems to be hit or miss with them.

Good find! For a while the amazon.ca listings had a "does not ship to Québec" notice, I'm assuming because the packaging isn't bilingual. Thankfully that didn't last long. Also Criterion's website states it only ships to "english speaking Canada" but I've never had any issue shipping to Montréal.

for Persona from amazon.ca
just add another criterion with a later release date to the order. and they will ship persona in a few days. (mine will be shipped in 3 days).

after its shipped you can cancel the other item and pay only half the shipping fee.

not a bad idea... if you want to feel dirty about yourself. I'm all for getting the absolute best deal possible, but that's a calculated scam, no?

my wife and I watched Belle de Jour last night and really enjoyed it. I really liked the dream sequences. they had a tangible creepiness to them. and I thought the characterizations were really well done, too - particularly the "boy scout" husband and Marcel.

it works on many levels - as an art film, the surreal dream sequences, and the (comparatively) conventional climax which I felt was really exciting

good stuff. multiple viewings material here.

most of the time the only way to stay below the tax free limits of a lot of countrys over here. ;P i dont feel bad about not wanting to pay ~12-15$ shipping/tax for a 20-22$ bluray.

I cannot make it to all of these, but I'd love to see The Killers, Sweet Smell of Success, and Brute Force on the big screen. This would be a good chance for me to check out some classic film noir with an audience. I hope that I can make it to one or all of these those three.

I watched The Swimmer on Blu-ray a couple of nights ago, and it really blew me away. It's such an unnerving story in every sense of the word, and the reviews that compare it to an episode of The Twilight Zone are spot-on. I might have to make room for this one as well, if possible.
Wow. Thanks for the heads up.

I wonder how these titles will be screened. According to Google, other series with the same title have played across the country over the past year, with screenings also introduced by Ms. Lancaster. (With other favorites that are no-shows here: 'Criss Cross,' 'Vera Cruz,' etc.)

I already have all six on DVD, plus, on blu-ray, Raro's poor, smeary 'Conversation Piece' and the excellent Criterion 'Sweet Smell..' But it would be cool to see an actual 35mm print.

Driving to the Emory area from where I live is a pain, but these are great flicks.

I live about 3 miles away and have never made it to a screening at White Hall.

I really wanted to catch 'Mauvais Sang' a few weeks ago but it slipped my mind.
