I must say that I find it ridiculous that there seems to be absolutely no accountability on the part of Supermart for the inconvenience they have caused to all of us consumers. I do understand that this may seem a minor inconvenience that might not be worth getting all upset about, but it is the principle of the matter that bothers me the most.
You can leave negative feedback if you want, if you haven't done so already. Just go to your account, go to "Leave Feedback" and then go at it. I did, just to be an ass.

I just saw this...Wow! I thought no one's money was taken because of the cancellation. But if yours is pending, maybe you are getting your merch??

It looks like the resolution may be similar, but the Studio Canal version had a rabid badger doing the color corrections.......... yikes.

Is Pierrot le fou now out of print, or will it be when the current inventory runs out?

And how is it by the way? The reviews I've read seem interesting, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

Amazon has Pierrot le fou back in stock. I placed an order this morning and it's now preparing for shipment.

I'm not as passionate about his works as others, but it's certainly a 'good' film, and a must own if you enjoy collecting films of cinematic importance, as it pretty much exemplifies the French New-Wave movement (was it a movement??? you decide )

When it's gone, it's gone...... I recommend getting a copy, and if you don't like it, wait a year or so , and easily sell it for more than you bought it for.

My account is as well. Don't worry I called and they said it should take 7 days, no later, to put the money back. It's like they hold it for 7 days to the side for the seller to get it. Since he isn't going to get it because Amazon won't complete the transaction, it will fall back into your account.

This screencap is why the Studio Canal one sucks:

It should always be this:

Also why would you go and get the version the cinematographer didn't approve? Raoul Coutard approved Criterion's version.

It's simple in my eyes. There are quite a few different languages in this film, not just French. So he put Navajo subtitles because it resembles the "key words" in the discussion as if you yourself didn't really no what they were saying, since they are foreign to you. Most of the film takes place on a boat so I take it each person is foreign to the next. I guess he was just showing how difficult it would be to understand and respond to another, hence why Navajo English is put in for the English subtitles.

I know you just wanted to put a hate thing out there with your "gimmick" idea, but no need. Everyone wants to be handed a movie instead of trying to learn the movie.

My review: Grab it while you can. It's out of print. It's really good. The end.

(Screen grabs on this page give a pretty good indication why you at least want this version, coloring is different vs the Studio Canal version. Not sure the PQ is as dramatically different, going from my vague recollection of the dvdbeaver comparison (looks like one of the same captures from above postings - dvdbeaver link), mostly seems to be coloring. To me looks like there are different blunders in each version (e.g., the day for night comparison, which is right?), but I'm certainly no expert (just watched it for the first (and only so far) time ever a couple of months ago).)

I didn't care for it, I understand what Godard is trying to do, but it just rubbed me the wrong way. I'd recommend a rental first. He seems to care less about plot, and more about using isolated scenes in a manner to show the viewer unorthodox things. Personally, I love romantic dramas, and dont like them tinkered with, hence why I dont like someone throwing in a pinch of Monty Python slapstick humor into them, simply to induce a "WTF???" from the audience.

my 2 cents.

No, I just don't want to feel like I'm taking a calculus exam when watching a movie. You shouldn't have to decipher a film, you should be able to enjoy it. Or at least I think you should. Films are usually considered entertainment.

Not eveything should be the same. That is why Godard's films from 1966 starting with Made in U.S.A. and on are considered "Essay Films" for a reason. Just like that guy posted above saying he didn't like Pierrot le fou because it wasn't a true romantic drama. Well I doubt it was suppose to be a romantic drama entertainment film, you know with all of the Vietnam references and the whole thing about not being a slave to society and it's ways.

You can get smart with all the "gimmick" and "calculus exam" things all you want, but if you want entertainment, you can very well see a Michael Bay film. He loves to get paid for the sort of thing. Someone is in the wrong place for that.

I wrote a term paper in college for a film-class on the use of color in Pierrot Le Fou, but I have never understood why that one shot uses green in the midst of all the other primary color choices...

surfdude12, lesson 101 about the French New Wave is that it's not about the plot of the film... it's about the experience for the viewer.

Well and also the fact that the directors had a plan to reinvent cinema, and one turned there back on that view.

Just curious, what's your favorite FNW film and/or which film do you think best embodies it? I'm quite fond of Jules and Jim myself.

Well the French New Wave really ended in 1962ish. That is about the time Truffaut changed his ways. What film really embodies it? I like Jules and Jim too, but I think what embodies it best is Breathless due to Truffaut and Godard both had a hand in it. Not my fav Godard (so you don't think I said it for Godard) but I think the fact those 2 were together on it, embodies the vision they once had.
