I know MoC do some great releases (sometimes dare I say better than Criterion) - Hell they Have Metropolis which Criterion don't! :P

Also on time for Criterions announcement - its different every time haha, sometimes i've seen it at 6 PM GMT, sometimes 9 PM GMT lol
Since Moc did their own restoration on Joan, the inevitable CC edition will be different in some ways. Personally, after seeing it in 20fps I have a hard time going back to 24fps.

Unless you are hurting for cash, I would consider having the MoC version a must have, even with the likelihood of double dipping on the CC someday.

Ah right, I don't mind double dipping, I have most my Criterions in both DVD and blu format haha - MoC bluray for JoA is only £10!

If you are into packaging, that steelbook edition is pure sex. A steel and a book in a hard cardboard slip. Crazy gorgeous. (and that is coming from someone who isn't really into packaging.)

this might be stating the obvious.. some of the more seasoned collectors or posters might be able to comment..

but some of the films that would seem to need A LOT of restoration work are ones that have been put off. I have noticed, by way of seeing the films on DVD, that some extremely popular films - films that everyone seems to be asking for, are in pretty sad shape. Le Samourai, Ikiru, Hiroshima Mon Amour, and Pather Panchali are the 4 films that I speak of. there could be more, but with varying degrees of 'lousy' those prints seem to need a lot of work.

could be why we are waiting so long?

Possibly - with Island of Lost Souls the original film had been lost so they had to use multiple sources through out the film which I'm guessing would take time to match it all up and clean etc - some others had same issue.

God I really want Mishima upgrade so bad lol

Any fans of Alambrista! ? It's one of those releases I've never gotten around to but would borrow the blu from the library.

Actually, it might help if people are buying the dvd. In an interview a while back Paul Schrader said Criterion would upgrade Mishima, but only after the existing stock sells out.

Wasn't A Raisin in the Sun suggested from the New Year Newsletter? It is screening on TCM at 07:35 tomorrow.

As far as stories about immigration, I like El Norte better...but I own Alambrista! as well...and enjoy it. They're both great films!

Yep there was a raisin clue on there. A Raisin in the Sun seems like the most obvious answer to it

I liked ¡Alambrista! quite a lot. I actually prefer it over El Norte by just a smidgen. Both are in my collection.

From the clue guesses posted here, the people dancing are thought to be for TBC, and the raisin for A Raisin in the Sun

Yes yes and yes! A few times in the past few years I've really wanted to watch Ran but I'm not paying for the StudioCanal version when I know that the PQ is going to annoy me and that, at some point in the future, I'll re-purchase when it's given the proper treatment.
