Hulu Renews Criterion Collection Pact, Adds Oscar-Winner ‘The Great Beauty

Hulu renewed its licensing agreement with The Criterion Collection, which will continue to make the distributor’s 800-plus arthouse films available for streaming exclusively on the Hulu Plus subscription service.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. As part of the multiyear renewal, Hulu Plus subscribers now have access to Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Great Beauty,” winner of this year’s Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Hulu Plus is really a great service for Criterion fans. It helps tremendously with movies I was considering blind-buying on BD, as well as those that have little chance of getting a BD release (The Eclipse series, etc..). I wish the quality was better, but otherwise $8/month is definitely worth it to me.

i own the studiocanal release and it does indeed look bad. but its good enough to beat every DVD release out there. and there is really a nice making of included. i would love to upgrade to a criterion release but there are enough kurosawa movies that are in bigger need of a bluray upgrade.. (the bad sleep well,ikuru, derzu usuzla..)

I, too, will vouch for El Norte. Nice film. Was lucky to see it at EbertFest years ago.
