I wasn't that impressed with "Chungking Express" and "Monsoon Wedding" but "Paris, Texas" is great.

Criterion hasn't had the rights for this in about 15 years. I highly doubt Anchor Bay would give up this cash cow.

I like Chungking Express & Monsoon Wedding, I have both on DVD and just upgraded Chungking to Blu. Howard's End is good but it's not one I would want to see very often and so I don't own it. I do not like A Christmas Tale at all.

the existing version of halloween on bluray is actually very good in PQ. I don't think the movie can look any better then it does now on bluray. And the bonus material is also quite great

yes.... sticking with the 'classics' you'll want to add

"Last Year at Marienbad"

and

"The 400 Blows" as 'must haves'

Both my Days of Heaven and Walkabout Blu-rays are displayed as "invalid disc" on the user interface for my Sony BDP-CX7000ES. Like you, both discs are in perfect condition and my firmware is current. Since both of our players use the same firmware, I suspect an update will solve the issue. Both titles played fine on my PS3. I have emailed Criterion about the issue.

Oddly enough, I managed to get Days of Heaven to play once last month on my Mega-changer, but ever since it has been listed as "invalid".

I watched "Wings of Desire" last night. In my opinion, the PQ and AQ was excellent. I only saw 2 or 3 frames were the grain was heavier versus the rest of the movie. I thought the contrast of the black and white to colors frames added additional depth figuratively and physically to the film.

As to the storyline, I saw a lot of similarities between it and "City of Angels." In my opinion, "Wings of Desire" is much more cerebral in its presentation and focus of the human condition and spirit.

If you are looking for a movie that causes you to pontificate about the various nuances of life and your personal focus and goal in it, this movie is for you.

I enjoyed the movie and am glad to have it in my collection.

Did you see Marienbad when it screened at the c'theque in June 2008? Seeing that film on the big screen is a 90 minute hypnotic experience. Incredible.

So far the Marienbad disc is my favorite CC blu-ray.

I have mixed feelings about Chungking Express. It has a fantastic atmosphere, which is something I'm always looking for in films, but I didn't really find the first part very interesting. On the other hand I thought the second story was beautiful.

Ans it's likely I'm alone in this but I would be wary of PlayTime. Personally I find Tati insufferably boring.

Also my favorite CC blu release. An oddly riveting film that sticks in your mind for days even weeks. From the packaging to the transfer a brilliant release by Criterion. For the uninitiated, proceed with caution. This is a film that I would never suggest to blind buy. Definitely worth a rent because love it or hate it you will have a strong opinion after viewing it.

City of Angels is a direct US remake of Wings of Desire.

I must be the only person on earth who dislikes Last Year at Marienbad. I had heard nothing but high praise for this film so I decided to blind buy it. I blind buy often so I expect a "stinker" now and then. I currently own 48 Criterion DVDs and Blu-rays and I have enjoyed everyone but this one. I must have missed something somewhere. Some day I'll rewatch it, but not anytime soon. I also own and loved Andrei Rublev and Joan of Arc so I don't think the slow pace was the problem; I just couldn't get into the movie at all. Agree - the picture quality was stunning.

I'd recommend: https://forum.blu-ray.com/movie-tv-d...mazon-com.html

The 400 Blows was the first Criterion Blu-ray I picked up and The Seventh Seal is one of the best black-and-white transfers available on Blu-ray in my opinion. Both are fantastic films as well.
