It was definitely better than I anticipated it to be, especially because there are quite a few funny moments. Overall, it's just not my kind of a movie.

I'm sure many will enjoy it, though.
I love it and think it's. Great film, far superior to the remake lol

I haven't seen the remake, but I think Robin Williams is hilarious and I'm a Mike Nichols fan, so maybe I'll track it down on my TV Guide.

The remake is more over the top and... Americanised lol - worth checking out though, it's ok ^^ I much prefer original though

Nathan Lane is amazing in The Birdcage. He should have been nominated and won an Oscar. One of my favorite comedic performances of all time.

I've saved a few hundred dollars over the last few years with my B&N membership. If you can get the coupons to scan in store during the 40% Blu Ray and 50% off Criterion sales, it's 1,000,000% worth it. If the coupons won't scan, maybe not worth it.

It makes very little sense that the coupons will scan at some stores and not others, but it is what it is.

So far, I would say the best were: Cronos, Naked Lunch, and Gray's Anatomy.

Nothing wrong with any of those pics...and are all top notch to me...especially Naked Lunch...in getting back to Dead Ringers I haven't seen that in over twenty years and from what I remember it was a very interesting watch.

Saw Tommy already. F*cking hated it.

But I will watch it in a double with Head tomorrow night.

Thank you , man! I finally pulled the trigger on The Turin Horse.

Criterion needs to get some Béla Tarr.

Satantango would be aces!

I also just recently pulled the trigger on The Turin Horse (wait...that doesn't sound right...) myself, from Amazon. Managed to get decent prices on that, two Cohen titles (The Thief of Bagdad and Intolerance) and a Kino title (Russian Ark), all of which I'd been wanting to get for some time.

Anyway, I want more Béla Tarr, and quite frankly, I don't care who it comes from.

This makes me sad. The editing in Tommy is awe inspiring to me

Another decent double feature idea: The 400 Blows/any great coming of age movie then follow it up with Quadrophenia.

I still need to watch Quadrophenia, as well as all of the music Criterions.

In other news, I just watched The Life Aquatic for the first time via the Criterion DVD and I paused it 3/4 of the way in to cancel my Amazon pre-order.

I found it to be one big giant chore with nothing compelling or engaging in it. It's now up there with Moonrise Kingdom as my least favorite Wes Anderson film.

Same here...except Darjeeling is my second least favorite Wes Anderson film. I consider those two films to be the point in his career where the artifice ceased to be charming and started to become irritating. That scene at the end scored to Sigus Ros is his lowest moment as a filmmaker. It was incredible that all those pretty images and sounds could have no effect at all on me.

Quadrophenia is my pick... this is a highly re-watchable Criterion too. I considered it in my top 5 at one point. Great film and totally gritty.
