If that was the only announcement for the month, it'd be enough to me.

It looks like whatever phantom page appears with this link today will be one of the hints to the August 2014 releases.

http://www.criterion.com/people/122082

I think Criterion has figured this out, though, as it hasn't worked during the past couple of times, but it's worth trying.

The most probable seems 49th Parallel since it has been released on blu ray in France.

Watched a rented DVD copy of Judex last night and I loved it. A perfect blend of art house and pulp cinema. One for pre-ordering.

I was just thinking yesterday that I would love this to be part of this announcement!
I can't hold myself any longer from purchasing it, but i would prefer a Criterion release, even though the already released Bluray seems to be excellent.
But I assume Criterion would include more extras (like the Fantastic Mr. Fox which had much more extras than the regular US release).

Except for this I would hope for the following, but really I don't see it coming. Not now, and not in many years to come..

Raise the Red Lantern
Farewell my Concubine
Cyrano (1990)
Indochine
Camile Claudel (1988)
Gandahar
Summertime
Mediterraneo

I had a blast revisiting the Criterion Blu-ray of Godzilla again last night. Here's to one of Criterion's most underrated titles.

David Kalat's commentary tracks for both the original Godzilla and Godzilla, King of the Monsters! are wonderfully entertaining, and they're packed with great information.

There's one scene in Godzilla with four characters in the home of the elderly scientist (Takashi Shimura) that makes me think of Ozu's Tokyo Story, because of the way that the emotions of the characters are conveyed by the way that they are distanced from one another in the rooms while a fixed-point camera observes them.

I watched the Blu-ray, and listened to the commentary subsequently myself, and Kalat really is very animated, and interactive with listeners. Very fun and informative too. It made me interested in buying his book, but it appears to be OOP. I agree about that particular scene too, it's very Ozu-esque.

Agreed. It's probably my favorite French movie. Definitely worthy of repeat viewings.

Can we finally get that Hiroshima, Mon Amour upgrade this month? I would love to see L'avventura, but with L'eclisse just under a month away, it seems a little soon. Though, I do believe they released two Bergmans within three month of each other last year.

Speaking of L'avventura, the plan for tonight is to go see a new print of that, along with Resnais' Je t'aime, je t'aime.

Cool. I'm going to the Tuesday screening but report back on the quality of the print and presentation. Love that theater.
