The Hunger is with Warner.

Yeah, I can never remember the cutoff. I was (obviously) hoping it was a little later.

I've hung around here long enough to see the The Life Aquatic people get their wish and the Scanners folks, too.

There's been a lot of good stuff released and nearly every month there is something that really piques my interest. This month, however, I've got a feeling that something will be knocked off of my very extra special wish list.

one of these is coming, I can feel it:

Ikiru
Y Tu Mama Tambien
Elevator to the Gallows
something from Melville

maybe Classe Tous Risques which recently got a UK release or...
and my head would explode for it - Chabrol's Le Boucher which just has a kinda crappy DVD and it seems that not many have seen it. I'd be willing to bet that the Criterion blu-ray.com community would LOVE this film.

oh, or Talk to Her which doesn't seem likely because of the other Almodovar hint

As much as I would love more Melville (Bob le Flambeur in particular), Elevator to the Gallows would be fantastic news.

I prefer the Siodmak version in terms of visuals, but Don Siegel's version is so darn fun. I'd love to see Criterion unleash an upgraded edition of both movies in the style of their DVD release.

I have a feeling these will be upgraded by Criterion. Hopefully this year.

I'd love to see some more Don Siegel works, of course. The Big Steal is a Warner film, but I'd be pleased to see Count the Hours, The Lineup, Coogan's Bluff, The Beguiled, or Charley Varrick.

This reminds me that I should pick up Two Mules for Sister Sara at some point.

Charley Varrick really cries out for the Criterion treatment.

Does Criterion plan on releasing Gilda (1946) ? I thought someone had previously mentioned it as a possible release for them

When Criterion signed a deal with Sony (more of a "logistics" deal than anything else, and more about what Sony could do for Criterion than what Criterion could do for Sony), there was speculation -- full disclosure: I was one of the people speculating it -- that this could lead to licensing deals for more Columbia films. I think Gilda was one of the titles being bandied about, perhaps because of word that Sony was restoring it. I don't think there was any definitive word that Criterion would be releasing it (or any other vintage Columbia film) though.

Arrow videos are announcing their summer line up on the 22nd. A Cronenberg film or two will be getting a release, and possibly a Melville film also (although I could be wrong)

Gilda pops up on a lot of wishlists but there hasn't been even a whisper of an official hint from Criterion. The speculation is pretty reasonable though. It's a Sony/Columbia title and would be a perfect fit.

OTOH, the fact that TCM got The Lady From Shanghai probably puts them in the mix for releasing Gilda too. In fact, I would think it makes them the front-runner.

The word is took a lot of arm twisting by Grover Crisp to get the Sony execs to license Anatomy of a Murder to Criterion. On the Waterfront allegedly didn't take as much trouble so anything is possible (especially since Sony is releasing very, very few catalog titles).

I'm glad it wasn't, because a new restoration was just premiered last year. It seems inevitable at this point. The only question now is when they will finally put it out.

Interesting considering On the Waterfront is the better of the 2 films
and anatomy of murder is reduced to MOD Status by Sony themselves

I'd shout from the rooftops and testify for the PQ of some older CC DVD releases. Godard's Band of Outsiders on DVD and Made in U.S.A. are two of them.

Le Samourai, however, is not. It is a miserable looking transfer.
