Love Streams is more conventionally 'cinematic' than his other work in terms of how it looks, and it feels like a transitional film in some ways, which is depressing, but it really is great. There are many J.C fans out there that consider it to be one of his best films, and now Criterion are finally giving cinephiles a chance to actually see it or rediscover it after so many years. Odd that Cannon films released it though. Not sure what kind of con game J.C ran to get them to finance it! hah

I can't wait to see a good transfer without annoying hard subs like the French dvd i saw around 5 years ago.

Can't say I'm overly pleased with Criterion right now. I had bought It's a Mad Mad World during the Criterion flash sale couple of months ago. When I watched it I noticed there was freezing. I emailed the POC at Criterion and he said he'd send out a new disc. That was a month and a half ago. Now that I email them I get no response. I've bought over 200 criterions over the past couple of years.

I am done with them.

Wow we are finally getting Y tu Mama Tambien. What has it been, like five years since we heard it was coming?

I would be fine with that, to be honest.

That art work is great. Love the three out of focus with the car driving into the sunset.

These titles are nestled in the perfect month- I dont want any of them Day One so I can gladly wait a month for the Flash Sale and save a bit of scratch.

I am so in for Love Streams on Day 1! Love anything (John) Cassavetes. Vengeance Is Mine sounds interesting.. A possible blind buy.

I just finished the 1954 version of Godzilla.

It saddens me to say this, but I was not a big fan of the movie. A lot of it has to do with my lack of interest in giant monster movies. There's something about watching a giant lizard-like dinosaur wrecking havoc that doesn't do anything for me.

I understand that the creature of Godzilla is a metaphor for the nuclear holocaust and it's effects and I respect that. I liked that aspect of the film, but not necessarily the presentation.

Overall, it was okay. The highlight for me was definitely the soundtrack. It gets an A++ all around from me. In fact, the film has one of the nicest scores I may have ever heard.

Is Tie Me Up Tie Me Down the movie with the chick in the bathtub with a wind-up diver toy? I remember that scene and was thinking this was the movie

I can't believe people are so lukewarm on this month. I think it's one of the best in a year or so. I'm thrilled to finally get Y tu Mama Tambien and I am over the moon ecstatic for All That Jazz. What an amazing surprise that one was!!!

• Two audio commentaries: a feature-length one with editor Alan Heim and a scene-specific one with actor Roy Scheider
• Razzle-Dazzle, a new video essay on the film by critic Matt Zoller Seitz
• Episode from 1980 of the television talk show Tomorrow, featuring director Bob Fosse and choreographer Agnes de Mille
• New interview with Heim
• New interview with Fosse biographer Sam Wasson
• Interview excerpts and footage from the set, featuring Fosse and Scheider
• Portrait of a Choreographer, a 2007 documentary on Fosse
• The Soundtrack: Perverting the Standards, a 2007 documentary about the music in the film
• Interview from 2007 with George Benson about his song “On Broadway,” which opens the film
• PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by theater critic Hilton Als
• More!
I dug out my two DVDs of All That Jazz. The reason I have two is because I got the original "Widescreen Edition" and also the later "Special Music Edition" release. When I got the latter, I couldn't get rid of the former, because the features from the former weren't ported over to the latter. It was especially annoying because the SME didn't have an additional commentary, but an entirely different commentary than the WE.

Looks like the Criterion edition will have both commentaries. It also has two of the featurettes from the SME: "Portrait of a Choreographer" and "Perverting the Standards". It remains to be seen if the feature noted above as "Interview excerpts and footage from the set, featuring Fosse and Scheider" is the same as the two items on the WE DVD referred to as "Interviews with Roy Scheider" and "5 Bob Fosse Clips", and whether the "More!" above includes the other extras on the SME.

So let me get this straight...

You've bought over 200 discs from them over the past couple of years. Now, since you don't mention having any problems before, I assume all 200 were trouble free. And now you have a problem with a disc, and before trying to escalate the issue, you're just deciding to be done with them?

Have you tried emailing Jon Mulvaney?

Sorry to barge in here with a random question.

I own over a hundred Criterion blus at this point and I have one in which the packaging is jacked. Its my Godzilla blu. It was damaged in shipping and I let it go at the time and now it's driving me crazy.

Anyway I emailed Criterion and paid 5.00 for a replacement. Will I be getting the actual packaging or will it come in a regular case?

thanks

The one time I ordered a case replacement (for Bigger than Life) they sent me everything (minus the disc and book).
