Can't wait for some people to complain about a damaged case or booklet, after all, that is not important at all.

And since there are previous posters all over the Internet for this film, it seems that if he is just buying it for the art and not the content, he might as well just buy a poster.
As I have said before - not everyone buys Criterion for the film, they buy it for the art which ha sheen down by designers and is only available on Criterion.

Others may have other copies of the film and don't see point in upgrading/double dipping and may not want that version in their collection.

and as he stated a minute ago - and as I've also said - Criterion is about the WHOLE package, not just just the film or just the artwork, its everything, so when 1 element is weak it can easily put you off spending the extra money to upgrade/double dip.

I honestly don't mind if you guys love the artwork - we all love different things and do things differently ^^

As to why I like it?

I personally feel that the film is rather unique so it's only fitting that Criterion uses a rather unique cover. The cover perfectly blends all of the key aspects of the film, such as the characters, the beach, and the road.

I really like the look on Maribel Verdu's face, as well as the positions that the characters are turned in, as if they are gazing upon and reflecting upon the grandiose mystery that is life.

I think anyone who has yet to see it will get a good impression of the kind of film they're in for from the Criterion cover. It has a very coming of age/road trip feel to it, which is exactly the kind of the movie it is.

I mean, compare that to the DVD/Movie cover. It's world's better in my opinion. I look at that poster and I think I'm about to watch a threesome take place.

All of the other cover artworks for the film look like bad made for tv movies.

[Show spoiler]You do get a threesome, I don't remember a blurred beach shot or a road obscured by sunshine.

Anyway, this one is done. I hope all that buy it enjoy the film and looking at the cover

Well I was going to write that it looks like I'm about to watch a porno, but just changed it to that wording instead . It's not really a good representation of the film in my opinion.

I know I was furious when I came to the realization that Paris, Texas doesn't take place in Paris, Texas.

In a previous life, I was a paperback collector, and there are several instances in which I bought a book that I wouldn't normally have bought simply because it was by an artist I liked.

I don't think I've ever done so with BDs (or DVDs or LDs). I might buy a specific edition of a film because of the packaging, so if a film I want has a sleeve, I'd get that instead of an un-sleeved copy, or a DigiBook (or SteelBook) instead of a regular edition. What I won't do, however, is buy a DigiBook/SteelBook of a film I don't like just because it's a DigiBook/SteelBook.

On the other hand, I don't think I've ever not bought a film because it had a lousy cover (there are far too many of those around). I might mutter about how much the cover sucks, but if it's a film I like or am particularly interested in, I won't get deterred by a bad cover.

I don't look at the cover artwork every time I look at my Criterion shelf, either. All my discs are on the shelf spine out.

Some of us, like me, pull our Criterions off the shelf to read the booklets or admire the work gone into the artwork

Actually, for me the film is heavily based on sex and 2 teenage boys who actually have no way of going about it. You only have to listen to their language (oral and body) to see that.

Default And now for something completely different...

After dropping my wife at her sister's to sniff snake oil, I went off to sell some DVDs and then drop into B&N to get some more B2G1 discs. I was mostly interested in picking up Double Indemnity and Touch of Evil, and looked around for a desired Kino title at the same price. Not finding one, I looked through the Criterions for $29.99 titles, and ended up getting Jubal (it was a toss-up between that and The Uninvited).

It'll be nice to see Jubal in its intended aspect ratio (the time I watched it on my cable's On Demand, it was cropped to 1.78).
