How can anyone hate this release - the packaging is incredible! Can't wait to dive in and start the samurai genre!

Excited!!

Can understand why people are annoyed by the size and stuff but I love it and this is one of those releases that you can buy just for artwork in book and on casing lol
It's really a great set (except for the slots). Just finished it a week or so ago. Dig in!

(Almost free for me was the Coffret Eric Rohmer, l'intégrale box. Want to get a few other blus out of the way first (plus Zatoichi #26 dvd), but it's the next big box of films destined to keep me busy for months...)

It is good to see a debate on this thread (although over a criterion cover is not too intellectually stimulating)

At times this thread feels like Candyland with all it's sugary sweet positive "reviews" and opinions for all the criterion films released. Y Tu Mama Tambien is ok/mediocre at best, a road trip film that does not really go anywhere.

I am glad to see a Pedro Almodovar film in the criterion collection. I hope to see Talk to Her released in the future. Having Almodovar films in the criterion collection was also CoopFilms (Hawkguy - one of the best posters on this thread) dream come true. I remember talking to him about it two years ago. Good times.

I don't think it would ever happen, but I'd love for IFC's Simon Killer to go Criterion. Hit Sundance a couple years ago and was released last spring, with an alright DVD (no Blu) available that fall.

I really disliked that film. I found it incredibly difficult to sit through.

I'd like to see The Four Corners of Nowhere get a Criterion release. Or at least a DVD release. By anyone. Ever. That way I could actually watch it again. I remember seeing it a few times on Sundance back in 1996/97, and enjoying it. Who knows, I might hate it now that I'm an adult...but I'd at least like the chance to see it again.

I wonder if Criterion will go for Young & Beautiful (Jeune et Jolie) since IFC are distributing it theatrically in the US.

Thanks for reminding me about that film. I need to watch it as it is On Demand.

By the way, Criterion needs to put out SOMETHING by François Ozon. It would be a shame if Swimming Pool was never released on Blu-ray in the United States.

I don't have any issues with the disc slots, mine slip out easy enough and don't seem to get stuck, none of my discs are scratched either - pretty sure Blus have a stronger coating than DVD's anyway?

Not check the DVD's yet though, but the dual format is great for me as I have american bluray in lounge and dvd player in bedroom, can't afford two bluray player atm, and don't see point lol

I think "Jeune et Jolie" would be a good choice for François Ozon entry in the Criterion catalog.

but do you know a country where Swimming Pool would have been released on blu-ray ? ??? (sometimes I'm trying to browse every amazon for every country to see if this has been released on blu-ray... I think... no)
In France, it happened often with the most recent movies that they are only released on DVD but you will find it on blu-ray in belgium, switzerland, or UK and Germany.

It's a great film.
I haven't seen Swimming Pool yet but it's on NetflixUS so I'll be watching that shortly.
It'd be great if they released, 5X2 & Under the Sand aswell.

I'd be happy if Criterion released 8 Women. It really needs a good US blu release. I know it's not the most popular, but it's just so fun!

Anyone getting Like Someone in Love today? Admittedly, I haven't seen it yet. It played for 2 weeks here then was out of the art houses. I'm anxious to see it. Certified Copy and Close-up are two of my favorite Criterion blu.

I may do a Kiarostami weekend and watch all 3 Criterion blu-rays and the two films which are extras.

It came out in 2012 according to the listing. I can't comment on the disc as I haven't seen it.

IFC have picked the US rights up for the latest Dardenne film. So I'm guessing Criterion will try and get that to add to their Dardenne releases.

I'll probably wait to pick up this version, but saw it in the theatre and have the UK release. I liked the film a lot.

It's so good. MOC put together an awesome Region B disc for it.

Default The Killers

Finally watched my copy of The Killers that I purchased during the 50% Flash sale (I'm so far behind). I'll start by saying I've not read the short story, but I've enjoyed other movies based on Hemingway's stories. So it's not surprise that I enjoyed [b[The Killers[/b] very much. The 1946 version was my favorite, mainly because it was the dead-on, noir film that I was hoping to see. The quick banter, straight faced killers and dectective style charatcers, and an amazing femme fatale.

As for the 1964 version, it was very good as well, but not my favorite of the two. It's not to say I didn't like it though. It was nice to see Ronald Reagan and Norman Fell in those roles. And I always enjoy a good heist type movie, but was just not what I was looking for in the noir style. I'm guessing it didn't work as well as it was made for tv. Still, an enjoyable movie and glad to have the films in my collection.
