One scenario that would not surprise me is for Universal to do a special edition for the 1946 version, as they did recently with Double Indemnity and Touch of Evil, and then license the 1964 version to someone like Twilight Time or Kino.

In the meantime, I'll hold out, hoping that a Criterion edition with both versions upgraded will be eventually forthcoming.
Given that Universal's Blu-ray of Double Indemnity included the 1973 made-for-TV version, I would guess that if they did The Killers, they'd include both versions.

Quite frankly, I think Universal should let Criterion do the upgrade, and focus their own efforts on Blu-ray upgrades of their four Universal Noir Collection DVDs: Black Angel, Criss Cross, This Gun for Hire, and The Big Clock.

I also watched To The Wonder for the first time this weekend. I thought it was great. But why do you want Criterion to release it? The non-Criterion Malicks already have fine releases. Let Criterion focus on films that NEED a release.

On other projects, this might have been the stage when we’d have to send the design to a film studio or director for approval. But in this case that wasn’t necessary, as the director and most of the principal players are long dead,

For those waiting for an upgrade to The Passion of Joan of Arc good news, I bought the MoC dual format edition today so expect a Criterion upgrade in the next few months

I agree with you about letting Criterion handle The Killers dual (1946/1964) upgrade, but if Universal did decide to do a limited edition with both versions, I could live with that, too.

Sincere thanks for your efforts, Claire. Unfortunately, since CC's release is from a different cut, the I-fell-on-my-sword for the greater good rule doesn't apply. Enjoy your MoC!

I think you're always going to be a bit hard pressed to get a lot of extras on Malick's films because of his reclusive nature. That's not to say you couldn't get film scholars to provide essays and commentaries, that would be fascinating in the case of To The Wonder and The Tree of Life in particular.

Besides, if Criterion can go on some holy crusade to get every Wes Anderson film ever made into their catalog, I don't see why they shouldn't do the same for Terrence Malick

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Different cut or not, I'm hoping (for the rest of us) that there's a karmic thing going on. That said, I finally imported the three Borzages from the late 20s, and still no sign of a release here.

Have you seen Master of the House? No comments on it here so far......

I am sorry for the delay. I had some technical problems, which I hope have been resolved now.

And a small note: My press materials indicate that new interviews with Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum should have been on the disc. I don't know if the press materials were worded differently, or if some changes were made, but I did not find these interviews on my disc. Also, I have not been able to find an Easter egg, where they could have been hidden.

How was this mastered in 4K when the OCN was originally mastered in 2K?

Criterion just released this online-exclusive video clip...maybe this is what they were referring to in your press materials and they decided not to release it on Blu-ray >>>

I don't know, amoergosum. I looked everywhere, but I could not find these interviews on my disc. I thought that there might an Easter egg, but I could not spot one.

If someone finds one (plus the interviews), please post here, or PM me, and I will be happy to update the review.

Has Criterion ever hidden an Easter egg on a disc before? I've never even thought to look for one.

They have. Google search "Criterion easter eggs" and the top link has them listed.

Im confused lol why should we expect an upgrade when you bought MoC version?

Or is this a joke where you held off Criterion cause of waiting for upgrade, then buy elsewhere then it comes?

Sorry just woke up lol XD

It was removed from the summary on Criterion's website some time ago, so I believe it was not ultimately put on the disc for one reason or another.

There is an unwritten rule based on careful observation that when one waits for a title (upgrade or not) and a foreign edition comes out and one waits some more and then finally gives in and buys the foreign edition months later, Criterion will announce or hint at that title within a month or two.

I should've said, different soundtrack, not different cut (althogh MoC does have the Lo Duca cut/version), different extras too. Always has been a double dip in my book.
