Nope. I've read the Nevil Shute novel, On the Beach, several times, but I've never seen the movie. I'm certain that it will be worth a blind buy, though.

I placed a massive Twilight Time order yesterday...
The Train
The Mechanic
Two Rode Together
The Man from Laramie
Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison
Used Cars (Free Autographed Copy)

As such, I might have to hold off on a few choice Criterion titles until the next payday. I'd like to get Red River fairly soon, just to make sure that I have a spotless digipak, though.

Default B&N Sale Confirmed for July 1st

According to /u/rhfan212 the B&N Criterion sale will definitely be on July 1st and may be running the full month. The user has been correct about their other sales so I would count on this being correct as well

Brace for impact wallet! I've dropped behind on releases..... I always hope for a direct from Criterion sale, but will wreak havoc in July now.

Here's hoping B&N extends their sale until sometime in August. I have 3 films I want with August release dates.

It will. Hell, I even like the made-for-Showtime remake from 2000, but the Kramer film is better. I think it was the first time I saw Fred Astaire in a film where he wasn't dancing.

It is a beautiful set. I think anyone who just uses just a little care in handling should be able to keep their discs in the original packaging without any problems. If you know that kids are likely to get ahold of it, or if you have a history of man-hanldling things, then perhaps a different case is in order. I'm thoroughly enjoying my movies and packaging - great set!

You and me both...in fact I pretty much have every set aside from America: Lost and Found / Bergman & Rossellini / Three Colors to still go through.

I've got so many things I'm wanting to pick up! Luckily, Rakuten.com just sent me a $10 "we miss you" coupon, so I crossed TESS and THE FRESHMAN off my list for $36 total. They actually have several of the newer releases for about half price. I haven't had any issues with them the few times I've ordered with them.

My plan...

1. Watch Season 5 of The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series Blu-ray set.
2. Watch The Buster Keaton Collection Blu-ray set.
3. Watch the Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman set.

So, I'll probably get to the Zatoichi collection before year's end.

Ever seen "Ghost Story"? I don't think there are any dance steps in that one either. Fred Astaire and the Borg Queen (Alice Krige)! That's an interesting combination. Not to mention John Houseman, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Melvyn Douglas, and Patricia Neal. I haven't seen it in years, so maybe it hasn't held up with time, but in it's day it was a fair thriller.

I have most as well, though most ton DVD so need to upgrade but huge investment lol - I want those OOP ones, AK 100 and Essential Art House - 50 Years of Janus Films, but both are in region of £500-600 :/ so frustrating lol - but do wish they would release more box set sleek this, something to treasure emote and explore

Dogme set would be awesome like this ... or a COMPLETE Godzilla collection haha!

I can see why it can be a hassle but my discs slip out fine with no real problems - I do take a lot of care though, but can see the ease if you put disc in a standard case.

Then when you're done you have the option to seek out the 26th film, The Beat Takeshi film, Ichi, Zatoichi the Last, the Television series...

Its almost endless.

The novel On the Beach is so masterful, that IMHO the movie pales in comparison. That being said, the movie is still extremely well done - just not nearly as good as the novel.

However, IMHO the On the Beach re-make from the last 15?! years was not that great....

Haha sorry :P - To be fair, now I have seen it in person id happily pay full amount, only seen caps from films on DVDbeaver and here and they look decent - will be my big leap into the samaruai genre though lol

Excluding KILL BILL if that counts :P

Also - to those whining it doesn't fit shelf with other Criterions - I gave it its own shelf deserves it lol

Can any mod reading this thread please move the Mulholland Drive Criterion thread to Wish Lists? There's been no confirmation of a release and it's getting peoples' hopes up every time the thread is bumped.
